In the manga and 2018 anime, the death of his close friend Kou Hiko and getting defeated by Taikoubou rendered his obsession to protect Yin meaningless and subsequently he chose to end his own life. In the 1999 anime, Bunchuu does not die. After Dakki is defeated, he flies off on his spiritual beast. When asked where are they going, he answers: "Who knows?"
