Kiryuu Kyousuke is seen as one of Yuusei's friends and he plays a major role in S2 [S1 Arc 2] in the Signer vs Dark Signer war. Prior to the 5D's timeline, Kiryuu had been the leader of a legendary dueling team called Team Satisfaction, which consisted of Fudou Yuusei, Jack Atlus, Crow Hogan, and himself as the founder and leader. However, later on, Kiryuu's motives for the team had changed, even after they had conquered all of Satellite.
In their "Last Duel" against Security, Kiryuu places several bombs on a group of Duel Disks and when he activated the switch, those disks blew up as a result. After this event, Crow, Jack, and Yuusei, who had left the team earlier, found Kiryuu in an abandoned building. Even though the three of them tried to prevent Kiryuu from doing anything else dangerous, Kiryuu managed to murder a police officer. Kiryuu was at last caught by Security after this event, even after Yuusei tried to convince Security that he was the leader of Team Satisfaction that blew up the duel disks. However, Security did not buy his story and arrested Kiryuu. Noticing Yuusei, Kiryuu had thought that he had sold him out, which was far from the truth. Even after Yuusei protested that was not the case, Kiryuu still harbored feelings of hatred towards him especially, even after being thrown into prison. It is believed that Kiryu had died as a result of one of the beatings he received in the Detention Centre.
Kiryuu was later resurrected as a Dark Signer under Rudger's powers. Kiryu harbored the Owl (or Astronaut) mark on his left arm and his deck changed completely, for the deck had to be changed in order to satisfy the summoning requirements for his Earthbound God [Immortal], Ccapac Apu. Kiryuu was the first of the Dark Signers to appear to Yuusei and the others, two of them being Signers. Yuusei, Jack, and Crow are surprised to see him, thinking he was still in prison. Kiryuu was fixed on destroying Yuusei and this was clearly his intent from the beginning of their duel. Kiryuu almost annihilates Yuusei during their duel, and he would have, if it weren't for Yusei's D-Wheel breaking down from the pressure. Kiryuu was also one of the Dark Signers present after Yuusei had finished dueling Rudger, calling Yuusei weak. However, Yuusei's opposite reaction surprised Kiryuu very much.
The second time the two of them dueled, Kiryuu used the same tactics against Yuusei, in hopes of sparking fear inside of him like the last time. However, this strategy fails and Yusei manages to turn the tables by summoning Savior Star Dragon, defeating Ccapac Apu and Kiryuu once and for all. Kiryuu, although being offered help by Yuusei, fell into the flames after his defeat, but he still managed to survive for a little bit. He then apologizes to Yuusei, saying that he couldn't have been satisfied with something like this. With those words, his body turns to dust, the way a Dark Signer dies after he or she has been defeated in a duel.
Towards the end of S2 [S1 Arc 2], he is seen with the other former Dark Signers unconscious in the realm where Yuusei meets the Godwin brothers, Rex and Rudger. Later, when everyone is revived, it is mentioned that Kiryuu had gone on a trip.
Season 3 [Season 2]
In the next season, Kiryu is revealed to have been residing in a town called Crash Town ever since he has been revived. However, unlike Carly who has no recollection of her journey as a Dark Signer, he vaguely remembers the events that occurred while he was a Dark Signer. He remembers the pain he inflicted on many innocent people, causing him to receive tremendous guilt in his heart. In Crash Town, he was part of Ramon's Dueling Gang and he was greatly honored, earning the title "Sensei". He was also regarded by Nico as an older brother, for Nico strongly admired him. However, in Crash Town, if you lost a duel, you were taken up into the mountains where you had to work until you died or couldn't work any more. Kiryu's aim was to reach that place, for he felt that justice would be served that way.
However, when Yusei shows up and challenges him to a duel, Yusei defeats him, in hopes that Barbara, the lady that told Yusei to come to Crash Town, would keep her word. Unfortunately for Yusei and Kiryu, Barbara betrays the both of them, for she wanted to get rid of Kiryu from the start. The unfortunate result was that the two of them were taken to the mines, where they were forced to work.
Kiryu had shown no desire of leaving the mines at all, feeling that his life was worthless. However, Yusei had a different plan in mind. He wanted the two of them to leave the mine and restore justice to Crash Town. Even when Kiryu resisted strongly to the idea, Yusei continues to move forward, resorting to even punching Kiryu in the stomach to take him along.
The two then meet West and his older sister, Nico, who had taken Yusei's D-Wheel from Crash Town. Yusei takes his D-Wheel and goes to find Lotten, leaving Kiryu and the children to find the children's father, who was a prisoner in the mine, and break him out However, this proves to be quite the challenge as the keepers of the mine began to chase them. With the price of the children's father's life, Kiryu and the children were able to escape the Red Scarves. He promises the children that he would show them his will to live again, no matter what happened.
Towards the end of Lotten and Yusei's duel, Kiryu and the children are seen by Yusei, surprising him very much. However, Lotten throws a dynamite stick and it explodes, leaving the riding duel with no result, and the children and Yusei and Kiryu are seen falling into an abyss.
At the bottom, Kiryu and Yusei seem to be okay, despite the tremendous fall. Despite Yusei's protest, Kiryu still believed that he wasn't able to help anyone in the end. However, after Yusei points out that there was still life, even in the graveyard of duel disks, Kiryu understands that the mountains wasn't a place to die in. Then, he takes one of the duel disks and he declares himself the Death God once again, vowing to save Nico and West by himself. Yusei tells him that he would fight alongside him. Kiryu nods, asking Yusei to lend him his strength to help him become truly satisfied.
Kiryu then enters Crash Town, which had been renamed to Lotten Town, playing his harmonica, just as he had in episode 86. He then stops and says that he has returned from the bottom of hell, surprising Barbara and Lotten very much. Kiryu and Yusei then later begin their duel against Lotten. Although the two almost defeat him, Barbara halts the duel and declares that Lotten had been decided as the winner since the beginning. She threatens the lives of Nico and West, surprising Kiryu and Yusei very much of the outcome. Lotten almost shoots the both of them with his gun, but a card is seen taking the gun out of his hand - Black Feather Hurricane Gale. Kiryu immediately recongizes the card as Crow's and Jack also later appears, pushing Barbara away from the children. Kiryu then become excited as Team Satisfaction has finally be reunited once again.
In the end, Kiryu defeats Lotten in the duel. Security finds him and arrests him, along with Barbara. Kiryu then tells Yusei, Crow, and Jack that he has decided to stay in Crash Town, which has been renamed to Satisfaction Town under Kiryu's command. He tells them that he would like to accomplish his will of living in the town. Yusei, Crow, and Jack agree to this decision and then ride away from Satisfaction Town.
