Kirara Hazama is a student of class 3-E. She is a slender girl with messy, shoulder-length black hair and thick eyelashes. As such, she comes off as very gloomy and melancholic. At school she hangs out with Terasaka's gang and was initially against Koro-sensei's arrival, though this may have been influenced by Terasaka's stance at the time.
At the beginning of the series, Hazama is rather introverted and keeps to herself. However as the series progresses, she becomes more open and friendly with others. When she is tasked with writing a play for her class, she writes with the wishes of her classmates and teacher in mind. Her script for Class E's play turns out very grim and depressing and Hazama takes pride in disturbing the school so much that they lost their appetites. Her classmates however seemed to have enjoyed themselves regardless. She also opens up to Kimura when he complains about his given name, saying that parents' will choose whatever name appeals to them. She then goes on to explain that her mother lives in a fairy tail and thus named her Kirara (after the sparkly sound effect). However, due to her mother's hysterical nature, her upbringing was stressful making it impossible to grow up to be cute like her name.
Hazama loves reading, preferring to sit in the shade with a book rather than swim during summer gym classes. At career counseling, she told Koro-sensei that she would like to work in a place surrounded by books since she enjoys them so. Her love for books also tends to influence her speech as at times she finds artistic ways to express her thoughts. Some of her more macabre hobbies include casting curses and scaring people. She claims that she has been scaring random passers-by since she was a kid, earning her the title "Miss Test of Courage Japan Representative."
Though her skill for for assassination and athletics is not high, Hazama is quite competent at marksmanship and academics, having placed joint 3rd in marksmanship, girls' side, along with Rio Nakamura, as well as achieving the 18th highest score in the entire school during final examinations.
She also has a unique skill blending into the darkness, something which Karma notices and makes use of in the class civil war.
At the end of the series, it is suggested that she has achieved her goal of being a librarian. She also has a gentler, more relaxed facial expression, and is more open and forthcoming, which is shown when she helps a young girl who asks her a question.
