The new anime release format that appeared in the mid-80s brought new opportunities for studios and various works began to be released on videotapes. Some of them were frankly terrible, but some became classics with a recognizable style and aesthetics. I bring to your attention works worth viewing.

Anime that are so terrible they become comedy gold.

Only the most "quality" of garbage!

Criteria:
• Score of 5.99 or below
• Widely considered to be "so bad it's good" by MAL users and/or the wider anime community
• Personal opinion/taste

No claymation, stop motion, 30 second CG clips, completely abstract visuals, experimental art created by a single person, etc!

Everything here is rated under 4.50 as of Spring 2022.

Was looking at some fan art one day and it came to my attention that fanart (and very good fanart) is an extremely good indicator of how important an anime is. So taking away the fanart factor from this list. Here is a list of very important anime.

This list is based on many objective factors.

The criteria this time is no criteria. This is the final list in my Obscurities series. If there is any criteria, it's that I think you should watch these despite their quality, popularity, or even my rating, because you should see 'em. There's some good, some bad, and some real head-scratchers in here. It's mixed bag time in here!

Looking for some of the funniest trashy and bad anime? Are you constantly digging up bad anime just to end up being bored by how bad it is, rather than laugh at how ironically fun it is? You've come to the right place!

I've only put in anime that made me ironically laugh while I watched it. There's anime such as Ex-Arm that were funny at first, but they also became a pain to watch as the series progresses. I still included it as the first few episodes are unintentionally hilarious. The list is organized from highest to lowest MAL average just to show how it gradually gets worse in quality.

Also, please DM me suggestions to add to this list too, if you have some! Tsui no Sora is excluded for being an h-anime, but it meets the criteria elsewise.

Worst rated anime according to MAL

You won't laugh with them, you'll laugh at them!

All OVAs from 1983-1985 that I've found so far. This is the majority of them, but I'm probably still missing a few obscure ones, recaps, or miscellaneous releases. One notable OVA excluded from this period is Cream Lemon, on account of it being a hentai series.

Note: I've seen varying dates for Midori no Neko, which is sometimes listed as 1983. I'll leave it here for now.
