Interest StacksEveryone knows Studio Ghibli's amazing work, but what about the other studios? Collection of films and OVAs (and one TV series) that "feel" like Ghibli films, but aren't related to the studio and aren't connected to its canon lineup. Factors considered include story beats and character designs that are often seen in Ghibli works as well as works by Ghibli staff completed for other studios. Here's a bunch of goodies lacking love, many of which are obscure, others just underappreciated. Almost all of them lean more towards being lighthearted, cute and silly. (Not necessarily all at once.) Lots of adventure, too! Keep in mind that they're not all "must-see", but this should still be a great source for finding something new and enjoyable. When I first started watching anime, I thought anime was basically a kind of animation with a unique art style. But now I am seeing that most anime comes with a lot of tropes, and a lot of people see these tropes as part of anime. I am not a fan of these tropes, so I am making a list of anime that I like, and I feel have a relatively low amount of tropes, at least compared to most other anime. I still haven't watched a lot of anime, for example - Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. But I will add more anime as I watch them. This is a list of non-Ghibli standalone movies - meaning they are not associated with a TV series The criteria this time is no criteria. This is the final list in my Obscurities series. If there is any criteria, it's that I think you should watch these despite their quality, popularity, or even my rating, because you should see 'em. There's some good, some bad, and some real head-scratchers in here. It's mixed bag time in here! some lesser known shows, movies, etc. some have been very surprising gems to me. some mind-blowing, some heart-warming, some merely interesting, some just outright hilarious! Anime with soft & round artstyles. Series that are either about or focus primarily on characters that are also animals, this can include anthropomorphic animals Anime that are set either partially or entirely in the era before the written word exists. |
