Interest StacksFeaturing little to no dialogue and/or characters and the experience is carried by the music and/or visual atmosphere. Critics & Connoisseurs was a club that was founded in 2008 and ended club activities on the 31st of 2022. If you've ever seen an anime and thought, "Wow, this anime has really good background art", and "Wow, this episode preview at the end looks amazing!" chances are it was made by Shichiro Kobayashi. An icon of Japanese animation, Kobayashi has had a fruitful career spanning over thirty years as the art director for several iconic shows. While known generally for his vibrant and highly detailed palettes, Kobayashi brought the animation technique known as "postcard memories" or "harmonies" to life alongside director and innovator Osamu Dezaki and character designer Akio Sugino, which are cels of animation superimposed with gouache to give off a lasting image. ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ Anime can be more than the same one trick pony we see time and time again... A medium for varied and complex approaches to storytelling. This list is dedicated to Pre-2000s anime that has a visually impactful animation, regardless of the year they release. Every animated media that has been made has the idea to tell a story and to express a feeling on the watcher. But then, there are some series which has a particular way to evocate their sentiments and they use different tools to do that. Thought provoking writing, displaying the characters' internal monologues, their struggles and fears, using particular cinematographic angles and by blending contrasting styles of animation, coloring and highly symbolical and metaphorical imagery - these are some of the many hallmarks signifying the said animation has psychological themes, and that it is avant-garde in it's approach. This method of expression is not limited to any genre, as well. After watching just about all of the OVAs released in the 1980s, these are the ones I rated 6, meaning I consider them to be decent. This list consists of psychological titles, which helped me to accept inevitability and cope with fears, thus affected my personality above all others. Anime that makes you realise a lot about the meaning of human life and death, relationships, principles and most important: "self-concept". The new anime release format that appeared in the mid-80s brought new opportunities for studios and various works began to be released on videotapes. Some of them were frankly terrible, but some became classics with a recognizable style and aesthetics. I bring to your attention works worth viewing. Agh!! Everyone's in emotional and/or physical anguish! These shows end on a mostly bad note, so beware. I mean, if you need a bewaring. I'm guessing not. Spoilers, if that wasn't already apparent. This is a part of a series of stacks that are about artistic tendencies in anime (and that border the fine line between sophisticated and pretentious). |
