Yomigaeru Sora: Rescue Wings

These two series come highly recommended to viewers who are interested in realistic human dramas. 

Both are high quality anime series, standing somewhat apart from the normal "entertainment" anime. Both deal with the tragedies of natural disasters. But unlike "Tokyo Magnitude", "Rescue Wings" tell us the story from the other hand, on behalf of peoples, who raked blockages, organized temporary camps and hospitals for the victims, contrary to the sense of chaos. 

Both shows are slice of life with an all adult cast who are working as professionals in a military environment. For Flag that's UN blue helmet peace keeping, for Rescue Wings it's helicopter rescue. Both stories are un-agitated, relatively slow paced and highly realistic. Both shows also have romantic subplots for the MC, in an equally realistic and pragmatic style. Flag leans a little more towards shounen type dramatization and action, yet both are highly realistic depiction of the routine and "backstage" sides of military jobs.

For Planetes that's low earth orbit debris collection, for Rescue Wings it's helicopter rescue. Both stories are un-agitated, slow paced, somewhat episodic and highly realistic. Problems are solved with professional diligence, not heroic acts. Both shows also have romantic subplots for the MC, in an equally realistic and pragmatic style. Planetes has better developed characters and production values. 

Both are stories about the JSDF. Both anime try to be about interpersonal (and personal) struggles within a military setting. Rescue Wings is the better show undoubtedly, but both provide a unique experience. Anyone who liked HisoMaso will probably like Rescue Wings because of the similar setting and focus on characters.
