Kaze wo Mita Shounen

It's not so much about the similarity of story line or characters as it is a commonality of look and feel. I really think if you like Romeo no Aoi Sora you will enjoy the time you spend on the movie The Boy Who Saw the Wind. 

Children coping with the ravages of war. Hadashi no Gen is decidedly more realistic but The Boy Who Saw the Wind isn't total fantasy in its depiction of events and emotions. Both are excellent.

Similar alternate world time line involving technology, weapons, and a despotic dictator. Both feel like they are set somewhere just prior to WWII and have a bit of a "steampunk" feel. There is even a parallel with the young boy with special powers others want to use. Both are excellent. 

The protagonists are two kids. In both the movies one of the kids holds secret to WMD and raging nations are desperate to find the weapon. 

The protagonist in both movies (a girl in Nausicaa and a boy in Kaze wo Mita Shounen) flies on the stream of wind. Moreover, both movies touch the problem of war and a man conquering the nature, and both contain drama and slight romance. Kaze wo Mita Shounen happens to be more "mature" in its atmosphere.

Similar alternate world time line involving technology and weapons including airships and open cockpit planes and despotic dictator. TBWStW also has a bit of a "steampunk" feel to it whereas Last Exile is decidedly such. Despite the fantasy aspect of "special powers" The Boy Who Saw the Wind is possibly a bit more realistic than Last Exile. Both are excellent.

Similar world feel and involving technology and weapons and a despotic dictator.. TBWStW feels like it is somewhere just prior to WWII and a bit of "steampunk" feel but Conan's recovering post apocalyptic world also has a touch of "steampunk." Despite the fantasy aspect of "special powers" The Boy Who Saw the Wind is possibly a bit more realistic than Mirai Shounen Conan. Both are excellent 

Similar alternate world time line involving technology and weapons including open cockpit planes. Neither are really "steampunk" but have a bit of that feel about them. Porco Rosso is far more lighthearted than The Boy Who Saw the Wind but still touches on the pain caused by war, Porco more from a veteran's standpoint and TBWStW from that of an child caught up in it. Both can be enjoyed as fun and fanciful but both touch on some deeper stuff if you want to go there. Both are excellent.

Both of these anime are similar in the way that there are two children who have to try and make it out on their own, making the best of what they've been given and then eventually finding that special someone to help them along. Both Spirited Away and The Boy Who Saw The Wind are excellent anime and should be both watched for a good night in.
