Interest Stacks   Anime can be more than the same one trick pony we see time and time again... A medium for varied and complex approaches to storytelling.   This is an early list that I made and quite frankly it's a mess, I decided to make a more comprehensive thematic series, check them out:   Featuring little to no dialogue and/or characters and the experience is carried by the music and/or visual atmosphere.   GKIDS is an American film distributor based in New York with, according to the Los Angeles Times, a focus on "sophisticated, indie" animation. GKIDS releases critically acclaimed mostly hand-drawn, international films—such as the works of the independent Japanese anime studio Studio Ghibli—to North American audiences. GKIDS also distributes computer animated and stop-motion films in addition to hand-drawn ones, as well as American films by independent filmmakers. The name is said to be an acronym for "Guerrilla Kids International Distribution Syndicate".   This is a compilation of Avante-Garde shorts that are unique, mind-blowing and addicting. These will give you a different POV on the world of animation.   Standalone anime movies from 2000-2009.   A selection of more linear and conventional story telling or just damn good art. Most of these are narrative shorts with Sci-Fi theme or just a futuristic setting.   I'm trying to keep the characters as young as possible because these works tend to present more imaginative, even incoherent, segments, often due to a limited perspective or understanding of the world inhabited by the characters. Typically, this entails engagement with the unknown or unfamiliar or scenarios that are not fully grasped, and tapping into that feeling is easiest with children. This can include ordinary life expressed in an abstract way in Googuri Googuri, the augmented reality of Dennou Coil, or the dream world of Little Nemo. Initially, the list was meant to catalog independent short films with imaginative transitions, as I feel these capture the tone of what I'm going for best, but there aren't enough good ones that meet my criteria.  An anthology series is a television or film series that presents a different story and or a different set of characters. They make these switches in each episode, season, segment, or short, as determined by the creators.   For a good shot of adrenaline to the retinas   Standalone Avant Garde anime films with a duration of 45 minutes or more.  Movies comprised of smaller movies.
