In this list, I tried to collect as many shows as possible that are dedicated to the deconstruction of certain genres, plot themes or various characters. Therefore, there are both tragedies like Madoka and Eva, and parodies like KonoSuba or Kaguya.

No open end (to some extent, in some)
No harem, bl or gl
No ecchi (or slightly in some)
*They are tagged as romance genre or romantic subtext theme, the degree of romance content varies and some blooms in sequels which will require patience.
!After completing the anime it's recommended checking out the sequels, movies and/or source materials, if they have those, to confirm couples getting together and/or for further developments.
*Please do specified research before giving your time to watch.
The list is full but replacements with better quality new animes will happen, therefore it's suggested getting the ones you consider watching on your list.

This stack is for relatively realistic Slice of Life anime that depicts the daily life of the characters quite realistically and lacks excessive moe or other idealization/objectification of the social groups shown. Of course, taking into account the genre and premise of anime. For example, I defined Hibike as realistic since it's a rather visualy metaphorical anime, but didn't include many other CGDCT shows due to the "girl's zoo" premise.

If you know of other realistic shows that I have not mentioned, then feel free to write me about it in private messages or on the wall.

Ok, so you've reached an age when you're expected to only watch serious animes with complicated stories, deep characters and heavy topics. All those ridiculous school romances are far behind, they all use the same basic storyline, and all the harem fetishes give you spots anyway. And you're too old to bother about kids issues.
Or so you thought.
But there's still a kid in you that managed to survive somehow and you actually might feel good watching some stories about kids provided it's not completely stupid or cliché. It would please the kid you are still at heart.
So here is my take on romance or school kids stories that an old fart well into his fifties, meaning myself, enjoyed a lot. Maybe you'll find some good enough to wake up your childish self.
There are some spoilers in the descriptions below so don't read them if you want to avoid them.

Some sweet, some silly, some a bit of both. These are perfect for if you just want something that gets the warm fuzzies going, makes you smile, and believe in humanity again.

「Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life」

Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful
things are corrupt without being charming.
This is a fault.

Those who find beautiful meanings
in beautiful things are the cultivated.
For these there is hope.

           ※ ※ ※

All art is at once surface and symbol.

Those who go beneath the surface do so at their peril.
Those who read the symbol do so at their peril.

It is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors.

"Rational? There are two ways of disliking art, Ernest. One is to dislike it. The other, to like it rationally."

"Where, if not from the Impressionists, do we get those wonderful brown fogs that come creeping down our streets, blurring the gas-lamps and changing the houses into monstrous shadows? To whom, if not to them and their master, do we owe the lovely silver mists that brood over our river, and turn to faint forms of fading grace curved bridge and swaying barge? The extraordinary change that has taken place in the climate of London during the last ten years is entirely due to a particular school of Art.

You smile. Consider the matter from a scientific or a metaphysical point of view, and you will find that I am right. For what is Nature? Nature is no great mother who has borne us. She is our creation. It is in our brain that she quickens to life. Things are because we see them, and what we see, and how we see it, depends on the Arts that have influenced us. To look at a thing is very different from seeing a thing. One does not see anything until one sees its beauty. Then, and then only, does it come into existence.

At present, people see fogs, not because there are fogs, but because poets and painters have taught them the mysterious loveliness of such effects. There may have been fogs for centuries in London. I dare say there were. But no one saw them, and so we do not know anything about them. They did not exist till Art had invented them."

This interest stack is focused entirely on anime that take a break from the usual unrealistic, exaggerated, over-the-top tropes commonly found in the average anime show, and instead offer an entire show that's pretty much as realistic as any TV series with real actors.

These anime don't include anything exaggerated, they're as realistic as they get, and therefore they can be great to recommend to people who are not into anime due to the format being too unrealistic or trope-ridden to appeal to them.
