Comedy centered anime that will make you laugh, and allow you to proudly say, THIS IS COMEDY, without the sarcasm. The point of this stack is how these shows main purpose is to make you laugh, whether it succeeds or not.

Anime in the genre of horror or paranormal that are set in the Japanese province and rural region. Such shows often have a characteristic "Shinto" paranormal atmosphere and a rich collection of Japanese horror tropes, so I thought this stack would be quite interesting for people who like authentic Japanese horror or paranormal anime.

When creating a stack, the following criteria were used:

* Provincial or directly rural setting.
* Characteristic Japanese paranormal or horror elements.
* Melancholy, philosophical and thoughtful storytelling style
* "Esoteric" music.
* As a more urbanized alternative, Japanese macabre humor and play on urban legends.
* Strong use of Shinto elements and mentality
* Vibrant visual style of anime in general.

GKIDS is an American film distributor based in New York with, according to the Los Angeles Times, a focus on "sophisticated, indie" animation. GKIDS releases critically acclaimed mostly hand-drawn, international films—such as the works of the independent Japanese anime studio Studio Ghibli—to North American audiences. GKIDS also distributes computer animated and stop-motion films in addition to hand-drawn ones, as well as American films by independent filmmakers. The name is said to be an acronym for "Guerrilla Kids International Distribution Syndicate".

In this list are those anime that have been distributed by the distributor GKIDS.

Anime with romance as a main or relevant part of the plot, but also a "bigger plot" going on.

I'm talking actual romance, more than just "two characters happen to like each other". Something that is relevant, and ideally progresses through the show (note: also includes some incomplete adaptations with more romance past anime content).

As for the bigger plot, it can be anything from fantasy, adventure, mystery, sci-fi, etc. Check my notes for details.

Harem are mostly ignored as they are usually lacking in actual romantic progress, unless there is a clear main love interest.

Physics does not exist. The plot is crazy. The characters have a screw loose.
Turn your brain off and enjoy the wild ride.

This stack is intended for a show that premiered and peaked in popularity during the so-called Generation Z, and was also largely intended for this audience (people born between 1997 and 2012). Accordingly, the list also includes updated versions of classic franchises for modern audiences.

If I missed anything, including among the upcoming hyped adaptations, feel free to PM me about it.

The most prominent signs or clichés of anime for the zoomer audience:

* Return to the topic of confrontation between adolescents and adults who do not understand them and the conflict of individualism against collectivism in general.
* More progressive content, expanded focus on feminism, environmentalism, LGBTQ friendliness and awareness of many other social topics, etc.
* More female (especially in previously more or less male franchises) or unusual development of male protagonists, expansion of the role and writing of female characters in general.
* Increased attention to the realities of modern life like gadgets, social networks (Internet) and modern pop culture in general.
* More focus on psychology and personal experiences, including the suffering of the characters than on pure action and fanservice.
* More adaptations of non-standard sources or topics like Korean manhwa or Chinese games.

P.S. The list is constantly updated depending on the emergence of new significant anime or the loss of relevance of old ones.

This stack is for anime with a strong urban culture, usually expressed in copious urban jungle or "big anthill" aesthetics, contemporary youth art genres such as street graffiti or alternative music (street hip-hop, alternative rock or electronic dance music), various today subcultures, modern street fashion in clothes, accessories and hairstyleg of the characters and the stereotypical urban themes such as street gangs, young artists, and life of modern youth in large cities in general.

Given the rapid development of such trends, I tried to select mostly new or relatively new shows, but you can also find anime from the 00s here due to the extreme popularity of such topics in shows of that time. Also, I tried not to include a cyberpunk show, since this is still a rather specific separate genre, which is easier to single out into some separate stack. Although it has large doses of grim urban culture, yes.

P.S. I don't watch shows like this that often, so don't be afraid to tell me which shows I can add or remove from this stack. Of course, regardless of genre or target audience.

An urban fantasy anime that focuses on urban legends and modern urban folklore. A wide range of themes, from teenage and young adult science fiction about telekinesis and ignition with a glance to classic urban fantasy with scary stories and urban magic. Most of these anime are expectedly dedicated to the so-called “espers” (characters with conditionally scientifically explained superpowers), so this stack can also indirectly be considered dedicated to them.
