New Interest Stack
Interest StacksThe "Scotland Loves Anime" film festival takes place annually in Glasgow and Edinburgh. It was started in 2010 and includes the "Golden Partridge" jury award and audience-voted awards. Here's a bunch of goodies lacking love, many of which are obscure, others just underappreciated. Almost all of them lean more towards being lighthearted, cute and silly. (Not necessarily all at once.) Lots of adventure, too! Keep in mind that they're not all "must-see", but this should still be a great source for finding something new and enjoyable. I remember going to the video store, browsing the shelves, and picking out a movie based on the box art alone. I'd look at the front, I'd look at the back, and more often than not I'd put it back on the shelf. Occasionally there'd be something like Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll, and I knew I just had to rent it, or more accurately get my parents to rent it. Do you like watching trashy 80/90s OVAs and movies that are violent, stupid, and nonsensical? Well this list is for you. Some of these are pretty famous in the community like Violence Jack and M.D. Geist, but I made sure to really dumpster dive for some obscure trash for all of you garbage connoisseurs out there. Stunning animation. Attention & care put into the characters, places, animals, and every single detail of the world to the point that its aesthetic becomes instantly recognizable. Anime Movies from the 70s & 80s. The 1990s are considered a golden age for Japanese anime. Anime series and OVAs that have had a lasting impact on the evolution of anime style and culture. Standalone Animes Movies & OVAs from the 80s & 90s that I want to watch. Just some classic physical cels and hard work. Anime that, at the time of the release, was set at least a year into the future but with a date that has already come to pass. Also includes anime with plot-important events set in a future that has already passed, even if the anime's main setting still remains in the future. Recommended for older viewers that want an alternative to shows and movies set at Anime High School. Casts in these anime are primarily over 18 and most are intended more for adult audiences, even if they're silly or light-hearted in nature. (Big obvious exception: Dragon Ball Z.) Anime released on VHS by Manga Entertainment/Manga Video in the UK. If you have any additions or corrections let me know. Every cinema or direct to video anime film that came out in 1989.
