Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen - Ketsubetsu-tan

After a brutal surprise attack by the forces of Quincy King Yhwach, the resident Reapers of the Soul Society lick their wounds and mourn their losses. Many of the surviving Soul Reaper captains train to battle without their Bankai, the ultimate technique wielded by the fiercest warriors.

In the previous assault, Ichigo Kurosaki narrowly managed to help fend off Yhwach's fearsome wrath. However, to ultimately defeat his godly adversary and save his allies, Ichigo must now undergo severe training that will push him beyond his physical, emotional, and mental limits.

Though Yhwach already holds the upper hand in this ongoing blood feud, he also successfully recruits Uryuu Ishida, Ichigo's close friend and rival, to be his successor. Yhwach strikes out once again at the weakened Soul Society, intent on finally obliterating his long-standing enemies. As Ichigo struggles to attain new power, the Soul Reaper captains fight for survival and borrowed time.

I am rating it an 8 out of 10 solely because of the two fabulous Episode Title Drop in Episode 14 and 21.

There's nothing deep about it , I like music and i like when people enjoying what they are working on. The storyboards are fun , the choice of music is so purposeful, the output of the product itself makes me believe that the behind the scenes were a blast during the creation of this cour.

Coming back to those two episodic title drops ; they just represents that jump in the stylistic presentation of this arc. That presentation works so much in ... favor for the show. Sue me for giving props to a visual product for being competent in its visuals.

The plot isn't complex, nor the development of it is that drastic from Cour 1/Season 1 of TYBW. Heck even Cour 1/Season 1 concluded the season better but man i cant help but be bias about Cour 2 because it just caters to my taste so well.

Again, I am a simple man, give me badass title drops and great music and i'll just sing its praises for days.

Mixed Feelings

I mean...... it's Bleach..... It has good fight sequences and a lot of "let me tell you exactly how my power works". The manga would be worse, thank god the anime is better. I believe it is a solid 7. If you have time, go watch it. But if you don't watch it, you won't lose out on life.

One can engage in an academic differentiation of this anime, but it would be an exercise in futility. Ichigo's struggles in his quest to his newfound powers consists of a lot of sweating and all he has to show for it is a sexier telegraphing of his ... one-trick-pony technique and some kick-ass dodge mechanics. To the uninitiated, this continues in his future clashes, where he has a lot more of nothing to show for it. His claims proved to be empty bravado and nothing in the show highlighted anything significantly different.

There are some significant death, and some insignificant deaths. I classify such characters into the trope of "The peak moment of their existence was their death", and generally they are forgettable and irrelevant to the greater plot point.

Perhaps the most surprising change over the manga was how gory the anime was. It displayed with bare crassness blood and dismemberment of limbs and deformations of bodily structures. I cannot say I particularly enjoy gore, but kudos to the bravery of the script-writers to at least try and make the plot impactful.

In summary, I return to my opening remark. It's Bleach. It's known for its sick action sequence and banal plot-line. Watch it with commensurate expectation and you can grift some enjoyment from it. Good luck!

Alternatively, you can chill while watching something else. I last watched Bartender: Glass of God and found it to be an acceptable execution of a novel plot. Like a third aunt in a crisis, you can rely on it to provide you tepid entertainment for a a quarter of a day.

The 2nd season of Sennen Kessen-hen is a step forward, but only slightly so because the 1st season was an unhinged mess. One could say Bleach was about superpowered characters becoming so overpowered, that they needed to put constraints on themselves, and you would be right. But besides that, Bleach was actually capable of creating dramatic moments between characters and building them up for fights.And outcomes where usually villains were favorable and, most importantly, memorable.

Is there anything like that in this arc? No, not really. It's very rushed by throwing in a pitload of characters with no background and really no connections between them. There ... are no developed training arcs, save for... 3 characters hardly. But the main problem is that everything is just extremely formulaic the way it's done.

We have character A and B encounter in battle; one will overpower the other, the other will gain an ally or unlock another power, and the scales will shift. Some characters will die, or die but not really, only to "ha-ha, I'm not actually dead; my 2nd form" BS.

Everything regarding powers in this arc is built around an extremely childish bullshit of "and if I hit you, your head will explode," "and I can make holes in everything I look at," "and I can reduce the amount of liquid if I want to," "and I will cut through anything," and so on. Those powers are made in this stupid way as an attempt to combat that overall issue in the series where things escalated and leveled up so much that (same as my previous review on Season 1) basic shinigami became cannon fodder incapable of anything and the literal depiction of Star Trek redshirts.

Bleach goes through characters like in a card game, killing high-tiered characters from both sides one after the other in what is unsatisfying. Considering how one of the long-standing captains was killed off and "reborn," even not as a fan of his, I find it simply disrespectful for such an old staple character in the series.

Same again; there is not much plot happening; it's extremely simplistic until they throw random exposition at you that really tells you nothing and doesn't build up the fights or the war itself.

Bleach feels very shallow and, devoid of the humane aspect it once had, it has a video game feel to it now. I never thought Bleach to be super amazing, but I had fun with it in the past and regard it relatively high in the genre. On to the next season, who knows if they will finally turn things around.
