Undead Unluck

With the conclusion of her favorite romance manga, Fuuko Izumo is ready to end her life of misery and loneliness having long accepted her fate of never being able to experience passionate love like fictional characters. Cursed with "unluck," anyone Fuuko touches is in grave danger of experiencing unimaginable calamity.

While the possibility of imminent danger would have most sane people run in the opposite direction, Undead has other ideas. He is an immortal being with superhuman regenerative powers desperately seeking death, which has always eluded him. When their paths finally cross, Undead sees an opportunity to finally end his suffering by using Fuuko's unluck.

But before Undead can unlock the full potential of Fuuko's power to trigger the final devastating blow, the duo must first fend off a murderous secret organization hell-bent on exterminating those with special abilities.

I really enjoyed this. I didn't expect to. After the first episode I thought it was going to be some gimmicky anime that gets you in with the concept but fails to delivery in any other aspect. I was pleasantly surprised by the way this went.

I love the power system to be honest. That's my favorite thing about it. It's creative. Having negators who negate concepts instead of having standard powers makes for such an interesting watch. The match ups with fights are also interesting because of it. Creativity has to be used and even a weak person can overcome a strong person with ... the right usage.

I also grew to love the character and their stories. I'm not going to go too crazy because I don't have time to write a long review, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. I think it's a bit underrated because I haven't heart much about it.
Honestly, I enjoyed this more than Chainsaw Man, and that's getting a lot of attention.

Mixed Feelings

It has a different proposal, the plot is a bit weak at the beginning but the anime holds up well in comedy, there are several plots in the story of the undead that I was not expecting but they give an interesting lore to the character, unlike stories where the protagonist is the virgin of the story here would be the unlucky but there is a reason since she has zero experience, only some secondary characters have charisma and maybe the others could be better worked, who knows in the second season if there is one, the animation is satisfactory and for those who want ... something more outside the "box" it may be interesting to watch but if you want something more serious better go to another anime

Undead Unluck feels like it was made in a lab to appeal to Shonen Jump readers. But I think that in their attempt to find a new series to rival their biggest titles, they've failed to understand what made their most successful titles so good. As a result, new Jump series like Undead Unluck feel too manufactured. There's no heart in this show. It's uninspired. It feels like it's just checking off boxes in order to catch the attention of the magazine itself.

If this is your first time watching a Shonen Jump anime, you'll probably enjoy it. But if you've already watched Naruto, Bleach, or ... One Piece, then you'll easily be able to identify all the ways this show is trying to imitate them. Despite how hard it's trying to be unique, everything that occurs in this show is just... boring and unmemorable. I feel like I should say something positive about it, but I can't think of anything. Any time it comes close to doing something interesting, it still manages to do it in the most average way.

As others have already said, the "fanservice" in this show is disgusting. It regularly objectifies Fuuko for no good reason. I just felt bad for her, and I'm sure that's not what they were hoping I'd feel. There were a couple times where I did start to buy into the chemistry between Fuuko and Andy, but then it would get soured when I'd remember all the times Andy forcefully made moves on her. Andy IS a decent guy, so there's no reason for them to make him act that way towards her. Furthermore, it commits the worst sin that any fanservice can commit... It's just not sexy.

The character designs are ugly. Some of the characters look alright, but the two main characters are just unpleasant to look at. Fuuko's overall design would have been fine if it weren't for the art style. Meanwhile, everything about Andy's design is just terrible. Most of the time, he isn't wearing a shirt. For some reason, it makes him look so naked and gross to me... I don't feel that way about guys like Goku, but I want Andy to cover up BADLY. He looks better as Victor, if only because I hate Andy's regular slicked-back hairstyle so much.

For some reason, I kept thinking about Soul Eater while I was watching this. Soul Eater is a far superior show. If you're looking for quirky characters engaging in quirky battles with lots of action and STYLE, then watch Soul Eater. Don't waste your time with this like I did.
