Marine Shukkou!!

The horny grandma pirate is back with another MV and of course this being Marine, she always delivers. Animation and sound is about the same quality as her previous MVs and shorts but this being way longer with plenty of Easter eggs for all Hololive fans. Short, simple, sexy… just what you’d expect from her at this point in time. Might need to rewatch it a few times to spot all the background details cause lord knows I needed to…


She really is one of the best Talents Hololive currently have under their belt. It’s gonna be a sad day when she decides to graduate.

This time, I’ll begin my review with what I would usually leave for the last – notes on my final rating. Because in this case, I’ll have to disclose I’m biased. I’m a Hololive fan. I’m a fan of Marine. This makes me enjoy this music video considerably more than I would without the context. So, right off the bat I’ll tell you, if you’re not into Hololive, don’t expect much above 6/10. If you are a fan however, expect enjoyment that is higher than that.

The song manages greatly to evoke a pirate feeling, mixing sea shanty and idol style. Well, it wasn’t made by ... a newbie, and looking at other works by the composer, it’s no wonder it reminded me of oldschool action anime, which makes it double fitting for the boomer pirate protagonist.

Animation-wise, it’s one of the Hololive music videos that are closest to regular anime level of animation, up there with Hololive Alternative. The visuals convey the adventurous and camaraderie feeling.

My only complaint is that I wish the video was longer. The full song has double the length and it would be nice to have MV that covers the whole song. Of course, that is assuming that the added footage would retain the quality of the footage we already have. If not, then less but with consistent quality is preferable.

This is really mainly a treat for those who have been on the metaphorical journey together with Marine. And that goal the music video fills without a doubt.

In this 2:23 music video, we see Hololive set a new standard for their talent's music videos. The animation follows the plot of Hoshou Marine our swashbuckling, pirate captain set sail with her merry crew of brigands. The animation is incredibly fluid, and bright. The music video prominently features other Hololive talents who can be seen interacting with our heroine and her crew.

Importantly, the now-graduated member of Gen 3 Rushia can be seen in the video. Marine spoke at length on stream that she wanted the entire generation to appear together despite the circumstances around her departure from the agency.

Hololive really stepped up the production value for this project compared to prior works by some of their other talents. This music video opts for full animation, detailed backgrounds, and a broadcast anime level of art direction and compositing. The days of the highly stylistic, but minimalist, limited animation music videos we have seen from Hololive are behind us. This is the new standard and I look forward to future productions of this caliber.
