Do you believe in what you see or see what you believe? What is the truth and what is the lie? Is anyone benefiting from the lies and who is struggling from the truth? If everyone believes in a lie, does the lie become the truth? What happens if what you think is wrong has been the right one all along? Will you switch sides, or will you stay? ![]() ![]() Anime with weird / surreal imagery. Picked purely on visuals, quality of these shows may vary (but most are good). ![]() ![]() These anime fit into either of the following categories: ![]() ![]() Anime that comes packaged with socio-political commentary. Sometimes as subtext or metaphor, sometimes screamed out loud with abandon. ![]() ![]() In the dawn of the digital age, many creators have expressed their hopes and fears about technology and its influence on human society through science fiction anime, creating many interesting interepretations of what our future could be (or even what our present is) with regards to the ever accelerating integration of technology into our lives. ![]() ![]() Source: https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2023/03/03-1/anime-awards-2023-winners-anime-of-the-year-and-full-list ![]() ![]() These anime show at least one of the three sentiments expressed in the title. Some are very obvious, some are not. In the case of the anti-fascist ones, they don't always have literal fascists for villains, but their characters will show behaviours opposed to those of fascism. ![]() ![]() Animes that examines how the humans relates to each other from different points of view. Some are more focused on individuals and some explores bigger groups or societies. ![]() ![]() When I say visually insane, I'm not talking about anime with high quality animation, I'm talking about the ones that have chaotic, psychodelic, stylized, experimental and overall unusual styles. ![]() ![]() A stack that contains shows that somehow showcase or explore the interface between humanity and technology. Entries must be grounded in recognizable tech to at least some degree rather than relying purely on Clarke's Law. ![]() ![]() Whatever story might be being told, however familiar or unusual the story itself may be, they tend to have a setting that's easy to understand. Contemporary or historical non-fictional, futuristic sci-fi or cyberpunk, fantasy settings with swords and sorcery, etc. While there can be changes these settings to make them unique, they still remain familiar. ![]() ![]() Sci-Fi anime where technology in a not-so distant future has advanced so much, it almost seems magical. ![]() ![]() While most of the sterotypically elitist anime released between 1989 and 2006, there are still modern anime that are considered as "elitist". ![]() ![]() Original sci-fi anime, one entry per series/franchise. |
