This stack lists the winners of selected categories of the Sakugabooru Animation Awards 2022.

Sakugablog is a blog (yeah) that specializes in Japanese animation, with in-depth articles on various aspects of the medium, from breakdowns of single sequences to behind-the-scenes reporting on the industry.
It focuses more on the aesthetic and technical aspects of anime than on their plot or writing.

The anime listed here were selected at least once by the thirteen contributors to the article, in one of the categories I have considered fitting for this stack.
Such categories are: Best show, Best animation design, Best aesthetic, Best movie.

There you can read the motivations behind each choice, the non-anime winners, as well as the winners of the categories I chose not to include, namely: Best episode, Best opening, Best ending, Best music video, Creator Discovery. And much more.

I am not associated with SakugaBlog, just an occasional reader.

I'm trying to keep the characters as young as possible because these works tend to present more imaginative, even incoherent, segments, often due to a limited perspective or understanding of the world inhabited by the characters. Typically, this entails engagement with the unknown or unfamiliar or scenarios that are not fully grasped, and tapping into that feeling is easiest with children. This can include ordinary life expressed in an abstract way in Googuri Googuri, the augmented reality of Dennou Coil, or the dream world of Little Nemo. Initially, the list was meant to catalog independent short films with imaginative transitions, as I feel these capture the tone of what I'm going for best, but there aren't enough good ones that meet my criteria.

DigiCon6 ASIA Awards is a competition for short films of Asian origin, established in the year 2000 by TBS.

Most of the winning entries from recent years can be viewed for free on the official website and youtube channel:

https://www.tbs.co.jp/digicon

There is an English version of the website as well, but it doesn't list all the Japanese regional winners. Instead, unlike the Japanese version, it does have winners from other regions:

https://www.tbs.co.jp/digicon/en

This list is by no means comprehensive, as many of the winners don't have a MAL entry yet, presumably because the creators might not be established in the industry.
