Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu - Eris no Goblin Toubatsu

During their stay in the capital of Milishion, the adventurers of Dead End decide to split up for a day to run their errands. While Rudeus Greyrat has his plans derailed by a troublesome scene, the party's swordswoman, Eris Boreas Greyrat, finds herself with nothing to do. Deciding to embark on an adventure to slay goblins, Eris crosses paths with a cocky but talented mage named Cliff Grimoire. Though Eris refuses his company, Cliff stubbornly ignores her wishes and dares her to explore the perilous forest surrounding the city. Accepting his challenge, Eris ventures into the forest with the mage, where the two encounter something far more repulsive than mere goblins.

I usually don’t review OVAs, but I’m still bitter about the failure of my actual Mushoku Tensei review, so here I am.

This episode is pretty great. It's an Eris side-story with awesome action, new characters, extra world-building, & even a satisfying little mini-arc where Eris finally gets to take the lead & do something herself. Mushoku Tensei is the only isekai that actually makes me feel like I’m watching another world, & getting to see more of its beautifully realized setting will always be a delight.

If it didn't go without saying, anyone who enjoyed the series will also enjoy this OVA.

Mixed Feelings

This was really cool. Getting to see Eris in a different light was great, and it really added to her development. The animation in this was stunning, with incredibly animated fight scenes. This also didn't go near any of the weird pervy stuff that's littered throughout the show. I didn't care for the story itself, but it may come in later on in the show. The new characters introduced were pretty cliché, but they do seem to serve their purpose in the story. Over-all was well worth watching, however would seem pointless of you weren't watching the main series. If you have an interest ... in Ruijerd or Eris, I'd say it's a must.

When I found out that this OVA had been released, I was really excited because I'm a big fan of this anime. However, it didn't live up to my expectations, and I noticed a decline in its quality.

First, let's talk about the plot. I would rate it 7.5/10. The storyline is quite generic, and there's not much to judge about the overall story—it's neither exceptionally good nor bad. However, I found it interesting to see Eris spending time with someone who is quite childish, which brings out a more mature side of her character.

Now, let's address the main issue—the art. I would rate it 6.1/10. ... The artwork started off strong, with immersive details, but gradually became stiff, flat, and lacked polish. It reminded me of the animation quality in "100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru." Particularly, the animation of the illustrated story about the second main character appeared stiff and poorly executed, as if it had been rushed without proper revisions. While the anime did improve somewhat in the middle, the overall animation still appeared stiff, with some scenes even having a frame rate below 24. However, I must mention that the battle scenes were visually impressive and smoothly executed, indicating a focus on that aspect.

One of the special aspects of the "Mushoku Tensei" anime is its use of color theory, but unfortunately, this episode did not showcase that characteristic, which was disappointing.

Regarding the sound, I would rate it 8/10. The audio quality remains consistent and enjoyable to listen to. It's well done and maintains the same level of quality as before.

As for the characters, I would rate them 6/10. Unfortunately, my beloved waifu, Eris, appeared stiff and lacked the usual charm she had in previous episodes.

In terms of enjoyment, I would rate it 5/10. It's disheartening that this episode sets a precedent for the declining quality of the anime in the future. While I was initially excited about the special episode of "Mushoku Tensei," it didn't turn out to be as special as I had hoped.

While I'm looking forward to season 2 of "Mushoku Tensei," I'm concerned that the current trajectory will negatively impact the anime's overall quality. It would be better if Studio Bind was given a rest period of at least 1 or 2 years.

I don't want this anime studio to suffer the fate of other studios that have faced similar issues. I hope the members are given enough time to rest and recover, so that the quality of their work can at least return to normal, or perhaps even improve.

Overall, I give this episode a rating of 6.2/10. The declining quality of the anime is evident, and I would be willing to wait 2 or 4 years for another masterpiece. Quality over quantity!
