Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! Double

tl;dr: A sequel that still has good comedy but tries to have more serious content and isn’t very good at it.

The second season of Uzaki-chan is a lot like the first. It’s still primarily about Uzaki teasing Shinichi for being a loner and the two being combative despite clearly liking each other. And the focus is very much comedy. However, there are quite a few differences, and not all for the better. I had two big issues this season.

The first is that there’s a lot more of Uzaki getting genuinely angry at Shinichi, in which case he becomes a complete pushover and apologizes incessantly regardless ... of how unreasonable Uzaki is being. A lot of people haven’t liked the dynamic between Uzaki and Shinichi in regards to her teasing him, but I thought it was fine because it was all in good fun and Shinichi was always at least trying to respond in kind. Seeing Shinichi being a doormat somewhat sours things.

The other issue is the emphasis on the relationship moving slowly. I absolutely do not mind slow moving relationships as long as there’s other things to compensate. In this case there’s a lot of good comedy so I’m perfectly fine with their relationship development moving at a snails pace. What I don’t like is how much time is spent on characters lamenting how slow their relationship is moving. It would be fine if this was solely for the humor, but its done completely seriously and feels like actual drama. But that really doesn’t fit at all and just makes things feel like they’re dragging on tediously. And of course, as expected, in the end things don’t really progress all that much regardless.

Both of these end up taking away from the good points of the first season. But on the other hand, there were some great additions this season as well. Mainly that we spend much more time seeing both Uzaki and Shinichi’s families. Uzaki’s family have a pretty fun dynamic. Shinichi’s family is wild. Both of them add some good variety to the comedy. And the stuff with Shinichi and Uzaki’s father is probably the funniest content in the show, in either season. So while some of the character and plot related stuff is getting somewhat annoying, the comedy is still pretty great, and that’s enough to hold up this season pretty well, though I’d still consider it weaker than the first.

The art and animation are solid. Though the pool episode is kind of strange in that it seems to be an ad for an actual place (Yunessun) and is using actual photos of the place as backgrounds in a way that looks kind of cheap. The new character designs are fine. The OP and ED are pretty good in terms of the visuals and song. The soundtrack is also works well enough but is nothing too special. Though there is a track that reminded me of TWTNW in KH2 that I found pretty memorable.

A second season, much better than the first, without a doubt. Here we see the continuation of this rather peculiar relationship.
For me, this series hasn't convinced me 100% for the simple fact that I don't think it's the kind of love I like. I like series with a more saccharine and sweet love where the two love each other very much and show it in different ways and don't treat each other badly. Here, it's not so much that they treat each other badly, but they don't treat each other in the best way, in my opinion.
Likewise, I don't think the series is a bad ... series because it's quite entertaining without a doubt, and the plots are quite interesting. But, as I said before, these are not for me. I don't take away their merit, but they are not for me.
If you want to watch a romance series that isn't so bad and entertains you, I think this is your best option. But if you want to watch a series with a more saccharine love, I don't think it's the best. Also, this is a second season, so if you liked the previous one, you will like this one because it has the same structure throughout the plot and so on.

Una segunda temporada mucho mejor que la primera sin lugar a duda, aquí vemos la continuación de esta relación bastante peculiar.
Para mi no me ha convencido al 100% esta serie por el simple hecho que creo que no es el tipo de amor que a mi me gusta, a mi me gustan la serie con un amor más meloso y dulce en que los dos se aman muchísimo y lo demuestran de diferentes formas y no se tratan mal, acá no es tanto que se traten mal pero no se tratan de la mejor manera a mi parecer.
De igual manera la serie no creo que sea una mala serie porque es bastante entretenida sin lugar a duda y además las tramas son bastante interesantes, pero estás como dije anteriormente no son para mi, no le quito el mérito pero no son para mi.
Si quieres ver una serie de amor que no sea tan mala y te entretenga creo que esta es tu mejor opción, pero si quieres ver una serie con un amor más meloso no creo que sea lo mejor. Además esta es una segunda temporada entonces si te gusto la anterior te gustara esta porque tiene la misma estructura en toda la trama y así.

Guys I literally tortured myself by watching all 13 episodes of this mess. Season 2 was a complete and utter disappointment. I thought maybe, just maybe, the creators would learn from their mistakes in Season 1 and actually develop the characters and plot. But nope, it was more of the same annoying and cringeworthy content.

Shinichi, the main character, is still a wet blanket who can't even muster up the courage to hold Uzaki's hand by the end of the series. Like, what's the point of even calling this a romantic comedy if there's no progress whatsoever? It's just a tease, a constant tease that leaves ... you frustrated and unsatisfied.

And don't even get me started on Uzaki-chan herself. She's still as obnoxious and overbearing as ever, always forcing Shinichi to do things he's uncomfortable with. I mean, can't she just respect his boundaries for once? It's like the creators think it's cute or something, but really, it's just annoying.

I swear, watching this anime was like pulling teeth. I had to force myself to finish each episode, and by the end of it, I was just relieved it was over. 1/10, would not recommend to my worst enemy. If you value your sanity, stay far, far away from this trainwreck.
