These are both Chinese historical fantasy shows based on a BL novel. They feature similar settings and themes of exorcism, demons, magic, and cultivation. The main characters' goal is some kind of mystery/investigation into demons. The main pairings in each have a similar feel (start out with hate, one is "evil"/pursues dark arts and acts more childish, the other is more dignified. The art in both is very beautiful, despite Tian Bao Fuyao Lu being cgi. Highly recommend checking out both if you like BL with good plot.

These are both Chinese historical fantasy shows based on a BL web novel. They feature similar themes of cultivation, demons, and magic. In both, the main pairing includes a character who is part demon (Kong Hongjun, Luo Binghe) who falls in love with a mortal. These are both cgi, with Tian Bao Fuyao Lu the prettier of the two (but Scumbag System is still decent). Scumbag System is less serious, as the main is constantly worrying about changing the predestined plot. It is, however, very funny, and Tian Bao Fuyao Lu has a fair amount of comedy mixed in as well. Highly recommend both if you enjoy  read more

These are both Chinese historical fantasy shows based on a BL novel. They feature similar settings and themes of exorcism, demons, gods, magic, and cultivation. The main pairings are comparable in that one is a demon (Kong Hongjun, Hua Cheng). The art in both is very beautiful, despite Tian Bao Fuyao Lu being cgi. Highly recommend checking out both if you like adorable BL pairings with good plot.

These are both BL Chinese fantasy shows. The main pairing has a similar feel in how only one is mortal and seems icy at first, while the other is a supernatural being who comes off more innocent and childish. The relationship starts off on a bad foot but they quickly soften towards each other. Ling Qi is set in a more modern world with magic. In contrast, Tian Bao Fuyao Lu is in a fully fantasy setting in another world. Tian Bao Fuyao Lu (despite being cgi) has much better art if that is important to you. However, season 2 of Ling Qi does look better  read more

These are both BL with a similar feel between the main characters. Shion and Kong Hongjun are both innocent, more childish characters who are dropped into a new world they find fascinating. Nezumi and Li Jinglong are experienced natives who are dedicated to helping the main character. If you like the dynamic between the pair in one, you should similarly enjoy the other show.

- Both BL series contain fantasy elements, although Tian Bao Fuyao is set in historical China whereas Shen Lan Qi Yu gives off FFX vibes - Enemies to lovers trope between the main characters - Humorous dialogue / scenes, with Shen Lan Qi Yu being the more lighthearted series - Demons, magical fights, pretty boys, mysterious artifacts

Both series are based on danmei novels written by the same author. The stories are also interconnected, as Dinghai is a prequel of sorts to Tianbao. There are no true overlapping characters, but the stories clearly take place in the same universe and there are some references and recurring plot points.

Similar quality in art and animation style. Gorgeous character design, backdrops, fighting effects and martial choreography. Expressive character facials and emotion. Some 3D animation have dead fish eyes for their characters, but these two are done quite well. Shao Nian Ge Xing is better in that sense. Both gives similar vibes. A group of youths cooperating in given task and fight together against common enemy. Their interaction with each other is fun and comedic and sometimes touching. Never a dull moment.
