Both shows are about weapons portrayed as pretty boys, with the main difference being that for Touken Ranbu they are swords and in Thousand Musketeers they are guns. Thousand Musketeers takes more of the approach with Hanamaru focusing more on the slice-of-life aspect than the more action-driven Katsugeki series.

Both shows contain personifications that are mostly all guys. In Hetalia, they represent the countries themselves, while in Senjuushi, they are guns used in historic wars and by historic people. This makes the Senjuushi characters feel similar to those in Hetalia as the Senjuushi characters partially represent countries themselves, and both rely on some similar stereotypes in their characterization. These shows use these characters and historic events to tell their own stories.
