Comedies also count.

Anime with yōkai⁠—spirits from the Shinto religion and/or Japanese folklore. Popular types include kitsune (fox spirits), shape-shifting tanuki (raccoon dogs), kappa (river monsters), and oni (ogre-like demons).

Megazone 23 SIN (?) - Reboot of Megazone 23 OVAs (1985-1989) [Mal Entry not Found]

Anime in the genre of horror or paranormal that are set in the Japanese province and rural region. Such shows often have a characteristic "Shinto" paranormal atmosphere and a rich collection of Japanese horror tropes, so I thought this stack would be quite interesting for people who like authentic Japanese horror or paranormal anime.

When creating a stack, the following criteria were used:

* Provincial or directly rural setting.
* Characteristic Japanese paranormal or horror elements.
* Melancholy, philosophical and thoughtful storytelling style
* "Esoteric" music.
* As a more urbanized alternative, Japanese macabre humor and play on urban legends.
* Strong use of Shinto elements and mentality
* Vibrant visual style of anime in general.

I've never made a stack before, and I don't really get it, but I think it can help people find new anime and that's great!

I thought this would be a simple one to start with!

Reboots/remakes of pre-existing anime/video games that are generally liked by their communities and critics. This stack applies to anime that have had another anime/video game adaptation beforehand.

If a manga adaptation is included here, it’s because another anime adaptation existed prior to the current one (e.g. Hunter x Hunter)

MC, deuteragonists or villains which are strong female characters.

Anime where the protagonist can see things that others cannot see; ghosts, yokais, monsters, etc.

This stack lists anime that are about buddhism/shintoism or frequently reference at least one of the named religions/philosophies.

Some of the listed anime are surprisingly good and offer a insight into japanese/eastern history, traditions and mythology. Some might be unapologetic propaganda.

Shigeru Mizuki Adaptations. It's mostly Gegege no Kitarou and a few Akuma-Kun entries. In order, for the most part.

This stack is intended for anime where evil or stereotypically evil characters and factions are depicted as benevolent or even downright nice people. Without deconstructive "evil and good are relative", just wholesome, comedic or bait and switch content with benevolent and friendly evil.

I’m not a big fan of the horror genre, but I do love some good spooks. The anime in this stack are all perfect to watch during the Halloween season.
