Monogatari (物語, "Story") is a Japanese light novel series written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Vofan. The plot centers on Koyomi Araragi, a third-year high school student who survives a vampire attack and finds himself helping girls involved with a variety of apparitions, deities, ghosts, beasts, spirits, and other supernatural phenomena, which often serve as proxies for their emotional and mental issues. Between November 2006 and August 2021, Kodansha published 28 volumes in the series under its Kodansha Box imprint. All of the series' story arcs share the common title suffix -monogatari (物語).

Here is the order of watching from the monogatari series.

A step-by-step guide to watching the entire Monogatari Series released so far, in as close to chronological order as possible.

I numbered the steps 1-30 on what order to watch the episodes in, as well as wrote the name of the arc next to the episode numbers.

Please note the following,

The series employs multiple framing devices such as flashbacks, narration, or characters telling other characters about the past. This guide is ordered by the sequence of events being framed, and not by the frames themselves.

I made note of the framing devices I found notable, however, some I willfully ignored, and others I'm sure I just missed.

Also at one point two arcs occur simultaneously, and I made note of that as well. I tried to order that part in the least confusing way possible.

The series is very clearly not intended to be watched this way. In order to watch in chronological order, you need to start in the middle of some seasons and jump back and forth between others.

Controversially, having watched the series in both broadcast and chronological order, I think this is the best order to enjoy the series in. Most detractors say that the chronological order takes away from the meta mystery, however, those elements are being artificially created, and not much is lost by their removal. I feel chronological order allows for a better appreciation of the story, characters, and foreshadowing.
There is no denying that the broadcast order is a lot more convenient to watch though.

*Note I plan to update this with Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season after it finishes airing, and I've actually watched it.

When it comes to enjoying the Monogatari Series, there are various perspectives on how best to approach the viewing experience.
Different individuals have their own beliefs on the ideal order in which to watch the series.

• Some suggest watching it in Studio Shaft's intended order, as they may have structured the animation in a specific way.
• Others advocate for following the light novel order, as this is how the author intended the story to be told.
• Additionally, some viewers prefer to watch the series in chronological order to better understand the timeline of events.
• While others create their very own watch order.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here is a guide to help you choose the best order to watch the Monogatari Series:

1. Studio Shaft's Order / Anime Release Order: It is advised to avoid watching the series in Studio Shaft's order as this order may not provide the intended viewing experience as some shows were delayed in release, potentially leading to confusion and spoilers that could impact your enjoyment of the series..

2. Light Novel Order: Watching the series in the order of the light novels will provide you with the intended experience and excitement as envisioned by the author. This approach allows viewers to immerse themselves in the story as intended by the creator.

3. Chronological Order: While watching the series in chronological order may help in understanding the timeline of events and character development, it may diminish the unique storytelling and enjoyment that comes from experiencing the series in its original format & the element of discovery and piecing together the narrative across different timelines can add to the overall viewing experience will also be missing.

4. Personal Order: While some viewers may have their own preferred watch order, it is important to note that these orders may not be suitable for beginners and could potentially impact their understanding and enjoyment of the series.

Ultimately, the choice of watch order is up to you.
But for beginners, it is highly recommended to watch the Monogatari Series in the order of the light novels for the best viewing experience.

I watched it all in release order at 1st & had no issue in that regard, however Light Novel Order is the near universally preferred order & thus I've chosen to mostly* abide as it's not as hard as it once was to do so.
It's HIGHLY recommended to watch the Blu-ray versions of these as a lot of animation decisions are changed due to financial restraints in the TV version.
