Sci-Fi cop shows about an elite unit of spandex-clad lawwomen with a mysterious leader. Burn-Up Excess essentially feels like Gundress if it were allowed to blossom into a complete story (having watched Gundress before).

Both are the continuation in the early "girls with guns saga" (the term didn't exist back then). Mainly girls are in the center of the story, and both their authoritarian handlings of stuff haven't changed much, but it's still funny though.

Both are light-hearted "girls with guns" anime. They have similar art style and a lot of action with ecchi humor. Although settings are quite different - near future in "Burn-up" and medieval in "Grenadier".

Burn Up instantly gives off the same feel as Excel Saga. The female leads are dumb, hyperactive blondes, always short of money and pathologically hungry. Both work in an organization of sorts (Excel=Across, Rio=police). Municipal Force Daitenzin in one and the police force in the other have the role of their (non-existent) cities protectors, usually with epic fail results. Full blown comedy, action and randomness with no plot.
