Hatena☆Illusion

Years ago, many magical "Artifacts" were stolen and scattered throughout the world. They fell into the hands of people who were not supposed to know of their existence, causing misfortune to those who abused their power. The Hoshisato family of magicians has special access to the Artifacts, and they take it upon themselves to return them to their rightful place.

Despite her inexperience, Kana "Hatena" Hoshisato wishes to aid her parents Mamoru and Maeve in their quest, doing her best to improve. Meanwhile, her childhood friend Makoto Shiranui has come to their mansion to study magic under her father's tutelage as part of a promise they made years ago. Hatena is excited to see her friend again, only to be utterly disappointed when the person she thought to be a girl all these years turns out to be a boy, leading to a bitter reunion.

Before long, Makoto comes to know of the Artifacts and the true identities of the magicians he admires. Unfazed, he continues to strive to fulfill his promises and stay true to why he learns magic—to ease the sadness of people around him and, most importantly, to become a person worthy of being Hatena's partner.

Hatena Illusion didn't seem to know what it wanted to do with it's premise. It's got all these neat ideas about magic and stage performance but it gets bogged down in a bunch of pointless interpersonal drama that doesn't ultimately affect the plot and keeps introducing new ideas before it bothered explaining the last ones. It isn't the worst thing in the world and it's mildly entertaining, but it feels like it just wasted a lot of it's run time. By the time the story starts picking up again it's over, and you're left wondering what the point was of what you just watched. It's ... a show you can watch and forget about almost instantly. I'm sure that in a few months if you ask me about this show I might be able to tell you vaguely it had something to do with magic, because not much else is going to leave a lasting impact. Average. 7/10

Mixed Feelings

I just got extremely sad that it doesn't have an ending, man. I was so hyped about the story, and it just stopped halfway. I really liked the story, characters, and plot, but it ended in the middle, you know? Still, it's worth it, I enjoyed the anime. Based on the ratings, I saw a lot of people gave it a low score, and I don’t really get why, but oh well, what can you do?

I don’t have anything else to say, but since they ask for a longer review, hi, how are you? I’m good, catching up on anime and exploring new styles. Quarantine ... has been pretty fun.

Nothing special, really cliche anime. Story and everything isn't good but the last episode wasn't half bad. The main characters weren't unique or interesting but there was some character development throughout the series, especially from Yumemi. Yumemi was the only character who I liked and enjoyed watching.

The show was unrealistic when they had to say their spell name and the villains just waited there but that's usually the case when it comes to this kind of animes. Also, I don't think the ecchi tag was necessary and they didn't show much romance between Hatena and Makoto. The graphics weren't bad but the art definitely could've ... been better. I wouldn't recommend this for people with high-standard, but it's kind of funny at times.
