The OVA market dried up as straight to video releases became a thing of the past, which is unfortunate because a lot of interesting and unique anime were released in this format. The point of the list is to feature worthwhile OVAs that are more than just fanservice or shoddy extras for TV series. Sigh, due to the explicit content warning feature, I've excluded Mezzo Forte, but it would be on here otherwise. I should also probably make room for Yukikaze at some point.

Mamoru Oshii is a popular creator and has been involved in several anime in both major and minor roles.

This stack is intended as a guide to specifically just his own creative works, all anime listed here were either directed by Oshii or created by him.

Entries not directed by Oshii have a note explaining his involvement.

Anime which conjure a reminiscent aire to the prestigious Souls series of videogames produced by From Software.

There is something very unique in the atmosphere of these games, that blends Dark Fantasy with an almost archeological sense of historical mystery to draw you deeper into their worlds and question how the deleterious beauty splayed before you came to be.
