Boku no Hero Academia

Nichigo (日5), a shortened name for the 5 p.m. time slot on Sundays, is Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) and its sister network Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS)'s anime programming block. Nichigo was first launched in April 2008 to replace the Doroku (土6) anime programming block, which aired at 6 p.m. on Saturdays from 1992 to 2008.

Beginning in April 2017, Nichigo was combined with the 7 a.m. Saturday anime programming block into a new early Saturday morning segment named Anisata (short for Anime Saturday).

The programming block has been revived in April 2022, with Mobile Suit Gundam Suit: The Witch from Mercury as the first anime to air originally on the block in October 2022.

While mostly known today as the character designer for My Hero Academia, Yoshihiko Umakoshi's recognition as one of anime's finest predates it by quite a lot. Getting his start as an animator at Toei Animation, Umakoshi was involved in some of Toei's biggest shoujo manga adaptations in the 90s, translating the shoujo aesthetic, with its quirks and all, onto the TV screen. This would culminate in Umakoshi's designs for Ojamajo Doremi, which sees his mastery of creating memorable characters, striking a fine balance between cute and cartoonish.

His versatility extends beyond cute characters, however—Umakoshi's involvement in now-iconic shows such as the first Berserk adaptation and Mushishi showcases his ability to design and appropriate serious-looking characters vastly different from his magical girl character designs. Main character goes through great trials and tribulations (and maybe a training montage or two) to get to the top. Starts out weak or with little to no power or skill, and becomes stronger/ more powerful/ skillful.

On this stack , I will attempt to make a newcomer's entrance into the japanese animated medium as smooth as possible. By the end of this stack I'm hoping you will be a well enough rounded anime watcher to understand what you like and what you dislike, as well as having you experience anime that are very good and others not as good, for you to appreciate anime as it is rather than showing off only the gems when the chest is 80% full of rocks.

This stack doesn't have the finest knowledge on everything and there are a fair amount of big types of anime I have no idea how to handle due to my own inexperience, a few big ones being sports shonen, shoujo and older anime. Feedback appreciated.
