New Interest Stack
Interest StacksAfter watching just about all of the OVAs released in the 1980s, these are the ones I rated 6, meaning I consider them to be decent. The new anime release format that appeared in the mid-80s brought new opportunities for studios and various works began to be released on videotapes. Some of them were frankly terrible, but some became classics with a recognizable style and aesthetics. I bring to your attention works worth viewing. Mecha anime where the characters don't pilot the robots but fight alongside them or control them remotely. Ordered alphabetically by their English titles. The mecha genre is specific to the anime medium, for the reason that what once started from an interesting concept, over the decades and the various artistic interpretations it had gone through, did managed to reach it's full development and thematic recognition. Some anime OVAs dating back to this time, with not many movies included. Kick back with your choice of inebriant or lack thereof and have some fun watching action heroes battle it out with all sorts of weapons, explosives, superpowers and machines. OVAs aren't usually very long so you don't even need to commit. You don't need to think too much and don't take it so seriously. These shows are all about having a good time and maybe some laughs along the way. Featuring little to no dialogue and/or characters and the experience is carried by the music and/or visual atmosphere. I remember going to the video store, browsing the shelves, and picking out a movie based on the box art alone. I'd look at the front, I'd look at the back, and more often than not I'd put it back on the shelf. Occasionally there'd be something like Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll, and I knew I just had to rent it, or more accurately get my parents to rent it. These pieces have a harmony, uniqueness or just an x-factor to their overall aesthetic presence, to include music/sound design. I'd only say there are a couple here where it is a spoiler to know, so they will be at the end of the list. Let me know if you think I should change the stack to have a spoiler warning. But I don't think it's necessary. Just some classic physical cels and hard work. These are just some which I've seen and plan to watch. Includes movies and OVAs. |
