Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 2nd Season

Returning from their summer vacation, the students of Class 3-E at the prestigious Kunugigaoka Middle School find themselves up against unbeatable odds. Faced with the possibility of world annihilation, the students must come up with increasingly elaborate and creative ways to kill their teacher, the cunning yet optimistic and helpful Koro-sensei.

However, eliminating Koro-sensei is not the only objective the students need to worry about. Gakuhou Asano, the academy's merciless and cruel principal, seeks to prevent Class 3-E's success by brainwashing his other hard-working pupils into ruthlessly competitive studying machines. Hostility begins to linger in the air as traitors and killers alike attempt to claim the bounty on Koro-sensei's head for themselves.

Nagisa Shiota, one of Class 3-E's most skilled assassins, finds himself in the middle of the conflict. While he works to maintain his academic standing and prevent the end of the world, domestic affairs jeopardize his place in Class 3-E. Together with his dedicated classmates, he must now face the threats head-on.

😁 Killer Class: That one teacher who changed everything °9° °Warm & Fuzzy°

Here's a story (that could only be pharmaceutically inspired), about a class that has been charged to assassinate their teacher, but when the school day is done, they'll pummel the chalk out of the erasers for him.

If they don't "off" him, he'll destroy the world before the school year is out. But in the meantime, he's an /excellent/ teacher. Simply world-class. In fact, they bring in a gorgeous female assassin as an English teacher, but when she keeps calling study hall instead of actually teaching them, the kids revolt and try to ... kick her out. Old tentacles never stops teaching. He can turn a poisoning attempt into a class on the effectiveness and importance of communication. "With assassination, as in life, communication is the key," you see.

AC is a 2013 release that is rated 8.08 on MAL. It is 2 seasons consisting of 49 23-minute English dubbed episodes with CC available. There is 1 offshoot production: Ansatsu Kyoushitsu: Deai no Jikan.

One year to save the world. All they have to do is kill their teacher. Kill their teacher or kiss the world goodbye. Simple? No. At mach-20 he can dodge bullets while he's taking roll call. The military couldn't kill him - and they have fighter jets and nukes. He's teaching because he demanded the opportunity, and they need to placate him until they can figure out how to gank him. So he's assigned the worst class at one of the best schools. They have a remote classroom up on a hill in the woods. The principal treats them like lepers, so the rest of the students do, too. Of course, this is top secret, and none of the other teachers and students know what's going on in class 3E. Others may think it's the @$$ class but it's the /assassination/ class. Given what the rest of the school is, this sets up several battles of the Assassins vs A$$@$$es, led by Asano Gakushuu is the principal's son - a real @$$ & poison pill. The Japanese word for unkillable is "Korosenai", so they call their teacher Koro-sensei.

"That was a very clever attempt, but I'll have to make a rule: No more shooting during class. Midterms are around the corner and if you are shooting at me all the time you'll never learn anything. This is a classroom, afterall...' that's a paraphrase, but I'm sure you get the picture. How's a class of Jr high 3rd-years supposed to get the job done? The prize money is billions... The motivation is there... They just need to think outside the box.

It's certainly heartwarming to see how much he cares about the kids and how much effort he puts into their lessons. They come to appreciate him, too. Teach was so excited about the school trip to Kyoto! He put together a Field Guide: A book (complete with a first edition souvenir 3D puzzle of a Shinto Temple) that's 1300 pages! Don't you know, every single page of that guidebook turned out to be useful! I feel like another word would be a spoiler so I'm going to stop there.

AC is FUNNY. Sonny Strait is amazing as the English voice of Koro-sensei. (For live-action, I'm team-subtitles, for anime, I'm team-Dub. The English voice actors are excellent). In order to razz and punish people, this octo-teacher will groom them. At mach 20, he does it so fast they are powerless to stop it. For some reason he likes grooming eyebrows. Perfectly. He does nails and hair, too. He's been known to catch a Yankees game for lunch, or to fly over to Hawaii for the evening. His exuberance is delightful.

The animation is hilarious. Koro-sensei gets most of the laughs. While his usual look is demented-smiley-face, he can change color at will, just like octopi. Here's a sample of the Koro-sensei Face Color Key:

People are drawn with classically simple features, more fantastical and less realistic and a tad of hyper-fantasy. Backgrounds are minimized, stylized, and enhanced realism. All of the art reinforces a light-hearted tone. Koro-sensei has seen plenty of tragedy, but he remains quite upbeat. There's something to be said for happy people. If we can't be happy, what's the point?

Much of the music is forgettable, but some is good, like Kaketa Tsuki by Shion Miyawaki. There's strong character development. The primary protag is the blue-haired Shiota Nagisa. He's earnest. Intuitive. Decent. Fair minded. Caring. Brave. And as it turns out, LETHAL. Jelavic Irina is the femme fatale professional assassin brought on to train the kids, "teach English" and to aid in their mission. She was never the sentimental type. The kids quickly pick up on her psychology and start calling her "Professor B!+ch," to her agitation. Being around the kids exposes her to a childhood she never had. She comes out a better person. Karasuma Tadaomi is the dour, dutiful, and deadly government agent assigned to monitor the class. He won't remain unaffected, either.

Akabane Karma was well on his way to being a criminal mastermind. He is one of the smartest kids in the school but he dropped out - in every way but physically. Koro-sensei coaxes and cajoles him back into civilization. Kayano Kaede is a mild mannered student who ends up full of surprises. Terasaka Ryouma with his 2-toned brown and white hair is sincere, simple, and a total meathead. Nakamura Rio has exceptional abilities but hated standing out in Middle school. She's been holding back which landed her in class 3E. Her time there has made her want to shine again. Even Ritau, the AI student they brought in gets a makeover. In fact, the whole class is inspired to shine. Koro-sensei may have destroyed the moon, but he's actually more like the sun, and each of these students are little moons reflecting his brightness. In that way, AC touches on messianic themes.

Other themes: Self-respect (You must believe yourself worthy of your target). Dignity. (Take pride in what you do). Teamwork. (If we all work together, we can get the job done). And mostly, DUTY; The Necessary Must be Done. There's a lot we can learn from Koro-sensei.

Violence and scares: Sure, they want to assassinate their teacher. But it's out of love. And duty. That isn't for little kids, though.

Sexual content: It's a bit of a b👀by brothers production, and Koro-sensei is a bit of a lech. Teach happens to be a dirty perv at times. It is never directed at a student. He's more into 2D voyeurism. It's funny.

There's so much good stuff out there for tweens. Show them Trollhunters, The Dragon Prince, The Last Airbender, and any of the Studio Ghibli offerings. Sean the Sheep is a belly-laugh-work-of-art-hoot, Paulie, My Dog Skip, original looney Tunes, One Piece...

Rated TV-14: Parents Strongly Cautioned.

Mixed Feelings

I didn’t expect this season to hit me as hard as it did. Season 1 was decent, but Season 2 really stepped things up—not just in terms of pacing, but emotionally too. It felt like everything that was slowly building before finally came together here.

The story flow was smoother, more polished. It didn’t feel like it was just repeating the same structure. The stakes were higher, and the character arcs felt way more meaningful this time around. Some moments genuinely caught me off guard—not because of plot twists, but because of how much I ended up caring about the class and Koro-sensei. I didn’t expect ... to feel that invested, but here we are.

Animation-wise, I actually noticed a bit of improvement too. It’s not flashy or groundbreaking, but it definitely felt cleaner and more consistent than Season 1.

And man… some of those final episodes? Straight-up emotional gut punches. There’s a lot of heart in how they closed things out, and it was done in a way that felt earned—not just cheap drama.

Way better than the first season, and it left me way more satisfied than I thought it would. Glad I stuck with it.

The premise of the series has to do with a class of losers being forced to kill their tentacle hentai teacher within a year. If they succeed, they will be rich. If they fail, the whole world will be destroyed. It’s silly, it makes no sense, and it’s just an excuse for fantasy empowerment. “Hey low-esteem student watching Assclass. Are you constantly being victimized by your society? Is everybody treating you like you are the scum of the earth, who will never succeed in anything in his life? Well, here’s a show to escape the harsh reality. You get to be an assassin who gets ... back on his bullies, kills his own teachers, gets lots of money for it, saves the world, and has lots of fun doing repetitive school activities! Thug life!”

And yes, I know it’s a comedy and it doesn’t need to make sense or be pragmatic, but it tries so much to be dramatic with high stakes that you simply can’t see it as a silly past-timer. Everybody has a tragic past but they are constantly doing silly things such as cross-dressing or spying on girls. One moment it’s supposed to be telling you important life lessons, and the immediate next it’s presenting assassination as a cool profession teenagers can go after. Remember kids, be good to your parents, wash your teeth every night, and kill people for a living because this yellow octopus trained you.

I can excuse the nonsense plot or the weak theme exploration, but not its lack of variety. I am not talking about different quirks for each character, it does that, I am referring to motivations. There is only one thing everybody wants to do: Kill the teacher. And there is only one thing the teacher is doing with everyone: Makes them work hard for a better future. It gets so formulaic and repetitive that you feel like you watching the exact same episode again and again.

I mean, yeah, the details change all the time, such as who is trying to kill the teacher, with what method, or in which location, but the end result is the same no matter what. There is always a battle of some sorts, Koro-sensei wins, and he lashes out a message about training hard to be better next time. I can give Assclass the credit of having a focused theme instead of being all over the place. And I like how there is variety in methods and locations. I also like how sometimes the stakes are as low as studying to score high in exams and sometimes they are high where lots of lives are at stake.

The problem is, the resolution is the same, no matter how grave the situation is. Despite the constant tactics and planning everybody seems to be using, the result is whatever the author wants it to be, since superpowers are abused and the laws of physics mean nothing. Koro-sensei has very broken powers, and thus has epic levels of plot armor. Yeah, that changes towards the end but it’s only because the show needs to end and not because someone overpowered him. As for the students using superpowers, it becomes meaningless when there are stuff such as mind control and instant healing. Free will and death lose their meaning, there is never actual tension because no matter what happens it can be easily undone. Thus the characterization is laughably meaningless.

I didn’t feel that in other anime about a teacher, such as Great Teacher Onizuka and Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei. Over there, everybody was doing something outside of a main objective. The students and assassins in Assclass on the other hand are moving like a mob and thus it becomes very hard to see them as individuals. You see them as plot devices rather than people trying to do things differently and thus developing into unique personalities. My point is, having the same goal for everybody is damaging for characterization. I understand that if they fail, the world will be destroyed, but it’s still damaging.

In fact, it goes against the core theme. If the show was promoting teamwork above everything else, I would understand the persistence of a common goal. But the formula of most episodes doesn’t play out as if it’s about working as a team. It’s mostly about a single student or assassin going after the teacher, and along the way showing something tragic in his past that made him the way he is today. What’s the point of individual backdrop stories when the end goal is the same for everyone? They are all moving towards the exact same destination no matter what they do.

What’s the point of the theme being about success when the objective is to kill the teacher? You know everybody will be constantly failing before the last episode. For a premise that is built around making the characters succeed in life, 99% of the duration is about them constantly failing. Also, it is a terrible objective. Nobody wants the planet to blow up, and nobody wants the teacher to die. The ending is either going to be a cop-out or it’s going to not feel like a success.

Beyond all that, it comes down to Assclass having dozens of unnecessary characters. The theme of the series is very specific and simple to need more than a handful for exploring it. In fact, it doesn’t need more than 2, Nagisa and the teacher. All the others are slight alterations of the exact same archetype, and the plot is basically the same in every episode: Work hard for a better future. The problem is, there is not much screen time allocated for each one of them before the focus switches to someone else, thus nobody manages to be memorable, outside the ridiculous design of the yellow octopus. And that is what leaves Assclass as nothing more that yet another forgettable school comedy.
