New Interest Stack
Interest StacksThe new anime release format that appeared in the mid-80s brought new opportunities for studios and various works began to be released on videotapes. Some of them were frankly terrible, but some became classics with a recognizable style and aesthetics. I bring to your attention works worth viewing. This is a part of a series of stacks that are about artistic tendencies in anime (and that border the fine line between sophisticated and pretentious). Mamoru Oshii is a popular creator and has been involved in several anime in both major and minor roles. A collection of anime released from January 1963 to January 2000 that still have something of an appeal. For better or worse. Before the likes of Saint Seiya, Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon conquering the kids in the west, it was actually Akira that opened the door and made people realize that the cartoons coming from Japan weren't what you would expect from Disney or your TV channels. These are old anime on Crunchyroll, at least as far as MAL identifies them. The stack is ordered newest to oldest. These are just some which I've seen and plan to watch. Includes movies and OVAs. Tired of adaptions, reboots, and remakes in your sci-fi anime? Frustrated that MAL doesn't allow you to filter by source material? Well, this list has you covered. All OVAs from 1983-1985 that I've found so far. This is the majority of them, but I'm probably still missing a few obscure ones, recaps, or miscellaneous releases. One notable OVA excluded from this period is Cream Lemon, on account of it being a hentai series. Grumpy Jii-san was an anime reviewer and hiking enthusiast. Many of us were fond of him. This is the third part of a list of the anime he reviewed in video order from oldest to newest. They are presented without his score as mild encouragement for you to watch his reviews. This list contains anime that were mentioned in the chronological order of the book The Cambridge Companion to Manga and Anime. |
