New Interest Stack
Interest StacksAnime can be more than the same one trick pony we see time and time again... A medium for varied and complex approaches to storytelling. Disclaimer: This stack is for informational purposes only and is not intended to marginalize or damage the reputation of the series mentioned. Art house, in relation to cinema, is a genre of films that are intended to be serious artistic works rather than merely popular entertainment but the descriptor can also be applied to anime. Furthermore, avant-garde refers to innovative, experimental, radical or unorthodox concepts and techniques. This can of course also be used in reference to anime and manga. As far as I'm concerned there's an anime about pretty much everything if you look hard enough: diving, underwear design, insurance investigation (yup!) and don't even get me started on cooking. So there, picked titles with main characters directly involved and at least some focus on whatever they're doing for a living or a hobby or both. Includes regular anime series, movies, experimental shorts, and even music videos. Anything that can be considered unique in either its art style or method of animation. Probably not every entry in this list will be suited to one's taste, but as we all know, art is subjective. Featuring little to no dialogue and/or characters and the experience is carried by the music and/or visual atmosphere. The criteria this time is no criteria. This is the final list in my Obscurities series. If there is any criteria, it's that I think you should watch these despite their quality, popularity, or even my rating, because you should see 'em. There's some good, some bad, and some real head-scratchers in here. It's mixed bag time in here! These anime have strong & dark depictions of suffering, mental illness, trauma violence, sex and various sociopolitical and economic problems in a grounded way and without sugarcoating it, although in fiction it is often impossible to completely avoid the distorting lense of epicness or melodrama when portraying reality. These are all animes which have not only been unable to grab the eyes of the larger community but also succeed in being a master at their own intended goals and genres. These are anime Iv seen that I feel have an undercurrent of sadness to them. Hopefully you find something new! LIGHT SPOILER! Reference, mentions, and depictions of/for sadomasochism or have mean love interest Well, how should I explain this? All the weirdest things in the weirdest box, what do you expect lol |
