After Mahoutsukai Sally - the first animated series adapted from a manga that was targeting the "shoujo" demographic (young female audience) - there have been many more works that were targeted to this new market following the initial success of "Mahoutsukai Sally"

This list attempts to collect some of the most important of those works, starting from the beginning. This is done so that people who are interested in or new to the history of "Shoujo" anime can gain atleast some kind of understanding of the history and the development throughout the years.

I will try to write my short spoiler free review/thoughts for each of the entries on this list to explain further why I think the entry is important as far as the history of "shoujo" anime is concerned.

In short these are the series that I think everyone who is interested in shoujo anime, the history of shoujo anime or history of girls entertainment in Japan in general when it comes to animation, should be atleast aware of.

Note: The term "shoujo" used in this list is being used to refer girls entertainment in general and not just adaptations from shoujo manga.

Once upon a time, before KPI and censorship strikes, these are the list of anime that ever aired on Indonesian TV.

I'm compiling the list from all around the Internet and some from collective memory.

I made this list because I wanted to start watching more classic anime. In order to make this list, I needed to set my own parameters. For simplicity, I chose 1980 and 2001. After browsing through MAL by season from 1980-2001, these are the ones that looked fun. Some are well known, others have a specific genre tag that I usually enjoy. Therefore, this list contains a variety of genres: mahou-shojo, idol, romance, etc.
Hope you enjoy it <3

story element that exists or existed in Real Life but is assumed to be fictional by the audience, often because it seems too unlikely, bizarre, or kitschy to be real. Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction...

So why do viewers assume these shiny spruces must be fictional? Well as it happened, A Charlie Brown Christmas contributed to their demise. After the special aired, sales plummeted, and tinsel trees had all but disappeared by 1971.

In short, when a quaint element of Real Life appears in a work of fiction, the audience might mistake it for part of the fiction. The usual reason is lack of familiarity with the object, so it is more likely to trip up those viewing the work from a different perspective (e.g. years after the work was created, or from another culture). And most "aluminum Christmas trees" are, like the original, a bit out-of-the-ordinary and kitschy. Even so, it's immensely funny (to those in the know) when someone dismisses a Real Life element as patently absurd and "unrealistic

This is part 2 of the ultimate music anime stack! Part 1 covers bands, orchestras, and instrumentalists; I recommend reading the description there. This part covers the idol anime genre concerned with music idols. Some idol-related titles like Oshi no Ko and Perfect Blue change the formula, those kinds can be found in Part 3 along with non-idol anime.
Part 1 ➢ https://myanimelist.net/stacks/58200
Part 3 ➢ https://myanimelist.net/stacks/62821

This list was designed for desktop MAL, optimizing column 1–3 to hold female idol anime, and column 4 male (with a couple of exceptions).

𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠
1–20. Large franchises (Idolmaster, Love Live, Pretty series, & Aikatsu)
21–24. Early notabilities (pre-2008)
25–44. Idol anime ordered roughly by score
45–50. More male idol anime
