World Masterpiece Theatre is a Japanese TV anime staple that showcases an animated version of a different classical book or story each year. It originally aired from 1969 to 1997 and then resumed in 2007. WMT series were originally produced by Mushi Production and Zuiyo Eizo, and then by the latter's successor Nippon Animation, and originally air primarily on Fuji Television. Many stories center on the idea of a simple life of self-sufficiency in harmony with nature, or characters having adventures in a pretty cottegecore environment. Cottegecore is often influenced by the romanticization of the European countryside in historical times, but may also take place in the woods, mountains, or other rustic locations in any time period. Aesthetics often include rural landscapes, cottages, and other dwellings surrounded by flowers and nature, boys in overalls and girls in old-fashioned dresses, lush forests, and low-tech items and furniture from olden times. Anime with a strong focus on non-romantic female friendships either as the main plot or between secondary characters. Many ran for exactly one year as part of the well-known family-friendly program "World Masterpiece Theater". Ending themes normally don't get the love they deserve, so this a list that consists of a variety of genres, from jazz to rap, but each of them has this strong melodic effect that will surely make you either sing, dance or, at the very least, headbanging you at the rhythm of the song. This is a counterpart to the my magical realism coming-of-age stack. Here, I'll be listing my favorite traditional coming-of-age stories, shows about growing up that take place in a down-to-earth representation of the real world without any fantasy elements. Like with the previous list, I'll be using the first season of the show to represent the entire series. Exhausted Studio Ghibli's filmography but want more? These anime have a visual presentation evocative of your favorite Ghibli films, but aren't made by Ghibli themselves. Collection of historical semi-realistic or realistic works that detail the historical events relating to The Commonwealth or daily life of people in historical context relating to The Commonwealth. Anime aired in Spain's TV channels (public or private), listed with the Spanish title. Might be missing some or be messy: I wanted to add the most important but also the less obvious. Excluding most sequels & movies. Trees, forests, deserts, oceans -- shows where the depiction of the outdoors is absolutely breathtaking! Adaptations, sequels, prequels and spin-offs of western films, TV shows and literature in anime format List of series with a rural setting. |
