Series that range around 11 episodes to 26 episodes and have already reached their finale. Taking into account 2nd parts for the 26 ones.

Anime where characters manipulate others, outwit them, mislead them for their own benefit, etc. Very often, these characters are very intelligent and great masterminds.

Every animated media that has been made has the idea to tell a story and to express a feeling on the watcher. But then, there are some series which has a particular way to evocate their sentiments and they use different tools to do that. Thought provoking writing, displaying the characters' internal monologues, their struggles and fears, using particular cinematographic angles and by blending contrasting styles of animation, coloring and highly symbolical and metaphorical imagery - these are some of the many hallmarks signifying the said animation has psychological themes, and that it is avant-garde in it's approach. This method of expression is not limited to any genre, as well.

I do realize that animation like this may not be for everyone, but I firmly believe in it's artistic merits and integrity. Media like this allows us to peek into the human psyche and probably our own too, and it provides us with often interesting viewpoints of our world, even if fractured through the prism of the animated fiction. Shows like that also likes to ask us questions without answers, to give us moral dilemmas without solid conclusion or in summary, to provoke us to think.

The shows that were picked follow a pattern - the ones which are more straightforward, less abstract and easier to get into will be first and the more complex and obscure the works will be at the end.

This list consists of psychological titles, which helped me to accept inevitability and cope with alienation, as well as some other existentional fears, thereby affected my personality above all others. Anime that makes you realise a lot about the meaning of human life and death, relationships, principles and most important: "self-concept".

Nearly all of them induce depressive thoughts, portray social problems that we face IRL, have biblical references and slow pacing. So be sure that you are in the right mood and prepared to face dark side of reality.

P.S. Despite the hopelessness and predestination you may feel while watching, these works of art still bestow warmth and hope through understanding the uniqueness of existence. The world is truly a cruel place and life is lacking meaning and purpose, yet we got the flustering chance to experience ourselves and the universe we share.

This was my first year in the Annual Challenge it was a bit stressful year for me personally but I managed to complete the challenge.

These are some pretty good psychological anime series and movies.. Some are new and some are a little older. Enjoy!

If you want to watch an anime portraying a character with a different vibe from their perspective. If they're a psychopath, murderous, not your typical "good" main character, or makes us go, "oh, that character's so wicked," even for a moment, it's on this list (one entry per series - no sequels).

Is it true that there's no better salvation than not being born in this world? Is the world that ugly that it's not worth living in? Should I even give it a chance?

Anime that has the smoothest animation/art style that you shouldn't miss. Something with many frames per second as well as beautiful, vibrant colors, that you don't have a single moment where you'll feel bored.

Most good stories have this, so this is more like, anime that use show don't tell the a lot and do it effectively.

for sci-fi for example, that would be how accurate the science is.

Mystery is my favorite genre, so trust me when I say I know what I'm talking about... kinda...

mystery is a pretty broad term, that has many different types. so I will help you by specifying what exactly is it that makes their mystery aspect good.

you will obviously not agree with every pick, but I think any mystery fan will be pleased with the overall selection.

Shows being here are purely based on two things:

1. I have to have seen them. I mean how else can I decide if they're good or not, listen to mal scores? The same score system that put demon slayer season 2 above vinland saga, made in abyss and the freaking disappearance movie?

2. they have to be good thrillers. They DON'T have to be good in every way possible. The thriller aspect is the only aspect that matters here.
