Panzer Dragoon

Even though the production values are different, both anime share similar themes and settings. They both focus on relationships between humans and dragons, and have several action scenes, even some dragon vs dragon fights. Both anime are set in similar fantasy worlds, and have a similar vibe. 

Both are stories about protecting and rescuing, that involve help from powerful creatures. As so, they contain a very similar style and atmosphere. If you like one you’ll definitely like the other. 

Remember how the games were heavily inspired by Moebius' Arzach? And Moebius even drew the cover art for the game? And then the anime ended up looking nothing like it? Well, Dragon's Heaven actually looks like Moebius and it's quite fun for a 20 min mech anime. 

Both OVAs are done by Production I.G. They are about saving the loved one and honestly I believe there is an exaggeration to say they are some of the worst animes out there. Check them out and give them a try since they are only 30 minutes long. 

Both OVAs are based on old Videogames. They are short and if you want to watch of what the 90s anime was. Although watch them in japanese, because english 90s dub doesn't help these short animations. 

Not so much similar to this anime as it is to the video game it's based on, since it barely even acknowledges the world it's set in. That said, both of them use the motif of a collapsed technological civilization that people have built around without really understanding. El Hazard is a very tongue-in-cheek telling of the standard "people from our world find themselves trapped in a magical new world", but manages to do it in a way that's still resonant. The characters are charming and have a good chemistry with each other. While the story gets bogged down by some directionless world-building and much of the comedy falls flat, it pulls itself together in the last episode for a poignant, haunting ending. read more
