Macross Frontier is a sci-fi mech like A/Z with really nice animation and sound (loved the ost of both), so if you want to see pretty space-mech fights watch this. But guess what, Macross also has a decent plot and well written characters!? So if you are feeling salty about A/Z's ending or want a well written mech series then check out Macross.

Aldnoah R2 is the spiritual successor to Code Geass R2, in my factual opinion. Geass made magic + robots THE in thing, and Aldnoah decided just to have outright magic robots. They are also, quite possibly, the only two series in existence that share an intense hatred of the word 'ORANGE!' Magic robots are not even half of it, though. It is the cliffhangers to end ALL cliffhangers the respective first seasons end with and the highly logical way in which they are continued on from in these sequels that makes them one and the same, along with the shared character dynamics. However, a key difference  read more

Both shows are have Drama, Action, and Mechs Both shows are focused on the cruelty and unfairness of war Both shows are emotionally impactful Both shows share the same critical failure area (they roll-back significant plot developments in order to force the show in a certain direction)

Two modern mecha classics which, aided by Sawano's subdued brand of music, forever imprinted themselves into the minds of their viewers. These two definitively proved that all-star writer / director staff lists, when paired with original robot anime, leads to greatness. Never will what they contributed to anime be forgotten. Ever. Code Geass was heavily influential for both shows. More so in the case of Guilty Crown since it was created by the same people and had the same basic plot/everything, along with robots on roller-skates. The idea of marrying magic powers with robots is how Geass came to add new life to the mecha  read more

Both series are Mecha based Anime where there are 2 factions going to war. One Faction based in Mars who felt like they were abandoned by the Home Land earth and wish to take it back. The other Faction being based on earth and being attacked with superior technology. The similarities between the 2 shows are too uncanny at first I didn't believe it. However if you like Aldnoah.Zero you will Love Gundam Age. Enjoy!.

When i was watching AZ, it reminded me for Yamato. Both animes have space battles and compicated relations between the characters. You can see in both animes battles for power and the intension to bring peace. I think that if you liked 1 of them, you should check the other one too.

Captain Earth and Aldnoah.Zero are similar in a way because they have a team fighting against people that live in space and also the plot and the character development are the quite same too

How do i put this.. the two are similar in numerous levels. Both are mecha in which one world is branched away from Earth and harbors animosity towards Earth and vice versa. Two main characters are fighting for a princess and a cause (although love may not necessarily be there). Oh and one more thing. The main character from both anime are disgustingly over-powering. There are more similarities but that is for you to discover.

Every time I watch mecha anime. Code Geass always comes to my mind. Aldnoah Zero's concept itself was very great, but it did not meet my expectations. However if you want to know more about how conflicts affects the people of the earth first before outer space I strongly suggest Code Geass. They have a lot of similarities like you choose sides, tactics vs power, the oppressed vs the oppressor, what happens to the people during a war and many more. As a result, Code Geass can be a helpful supplementary mecha anime to the mecha genre.
