New Interest Stack
Interest StacksAre you looking to watch something a little off the beaten path but still worth your while? I have some hidden gems for you. This interest stack has been picked from the Hidden Gems of Anime club featuring our fantasy anime movie picks! Animes starring anthropomorphic animals. These anime can look as beautiful as they are nightmarish. I'm trying to keep the characters as young as possible because these works tend to present more imaginative, even incoherent, segments, often due to a limited perspective or understanding of the world inhabited by the characters. Typically, this entails engagement with the unknown or unfamiliar or scenarios that are not fully grasped, and tapping into that feeling is easiest with children. This can include ordinary life expressed in an abstract way in Googuri Googuri, the augmented reality of Dennou Coil, or the dream world of Little Nemo. Initially, the list was meant to catalog independent short films with imaginative transitions, as I feel these capture the tone of what I'm going for best, but there aren't enough good ones that meet my criteria. A list of 80s/90s anime OVAs and movies you may not have heard of. Some are good and some are bad, but the bad ones are of the "so bad it's good" variety. Think of this as the anime rack at an old video store. Every cinema or direct to video anime film that came out in 1998. Some of the best that classic animation has to offer. I left out some obvious picks since you already know how good something like Akira or Princess Mononoke looks. |
