New Interest Stack
Interest StacksFeaturing little to no dialogue and/or characters and the experience is carried by the music and/or visual atmosphere. The criteria this time is no criteria. This is the final list in my Obscurities series. If there is any criteria, it's that I think you should watch these despite their quality, popularity, or even my rating, because you should see 'em. There's some good, some bad, and some real head-scratchers in here. It's mixed bag time in here! This is a collection of anime that I think is important/useful, or just awe inspiring in terms of its animation. If you are looking to study animation or even just want to appreciate the craft, this stack is for you. I'd only say there are a couple here where it is a spoiler to know, so they will be at the end of the list. Let me know if you think I should change the stack to have a spoiler warning. But I don't think it's necessary. LITERALLY kino...... do not even question the kino bro >:( A list of 80s/90s anime OVAs and movies you may not have heard of. Some are good and some are bad, but the bad ones are of the "so bad it's good" variety. Think of this as the anime rack at an old video store. ADV Films, the former incarnation of Sentai Filmworks, produced most of their English dubs in Houston, Texas. However, from the late 1990s until 2005, ADV also employed a secondary studio in Austin, Texas, known as Monster Island. Every cinema or direct to video anime film that came out in 1984. These are just some which I've seen and plan to watch. Includes movies and OVAs. Some of these are questionable, like Suisei no Gargantia can be argued to be fully sci-fi, but there is a feel to it that makes me include it, along with organic and archaic elements that are woven together in a way that makes this appear more fantastical than your average sci-fi. Similarly, Gankutsuou is sci-fi with advanced technology, but it's futuristic imagery is conceptualized to cohere with the elegant 19th century setting of Dumas' novel. I'm also avoiding the inclusion of more than one entry per series, so if season 1 is on here, then season 2 likely fits just as much. All OVAs from 1983-1985 that I've found so far. This is the majority of them, but I'm probably still missing a few obscure ones, recaps, or miscellaneous releases. One notable OVA excluded from this period is Cream Lemon, on account of it being a hentai series. Anime available in youtube with spanish dub (it will cover dubs from Latin America and Spain) and spanish subs. Also it'll try cover complete series, not those incompletes within few exceptions. This first part covers anime from 60's to 80's. It includes the links of the series and films. |
