Interest StacksThese anime all portray historically detailed and accurate tales set during or relating to the Second World War. While some are purely fictional, others are autobiographical in nature. In addition, all of these films give great insight into the Japanese perspective on the war and the bombings which have ever since traumatized the nation. Titles in which the characters are piloting flying devices (planes, brooms, etc) within the atmosphere. The characters being pilots is relevant to the plot, and during a big part of screen time there is action in the air. Shows where there are characters that pilot airplanes, shows that just have some airplanes appear on them don't count. The criteria here is simple: Anime released in 2001 or earlier, with under 25,000 MAL Members, and which I've rated a 6 or higher. Anime in the "Leijiverse", mostly adapted from Leiji Matsumoto's mangas. Ranked from newest to oldest Only movies with above a 7/10 score. Yoshiaki Kawajiri is a writer and director of Japanese animation. His most notable works include Wicked City, Ninja Scroll, and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Anime anthologies may not be as popular as the regular anime films or serialized shows, But they've been in existence for a very long time, Entertaining fans through numerous short stories that feature different characters, Genres and worlds, Often connected by an overarching theme.
