Both start of as lighthearted stories featuring a protagonist who starts off an adventure filled with mysteries. Later it would get serious and dark with formidable enemies coming in.

Both are the continuation of their respective series with the number 2 in their titles. The stories in both shows gets serious but at the same time receive controversy and criticism from fans alike. No to mention character development and action have more emphasis than their prequels. The conclusions in both series are a defining factor of what the show represents leading to more sequels.

Durarara is one of many shows that contains easter eggs from other anime/manga/light novels and Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is one of them. Lets get straight to the point, both shows are set in a school setting in Japan starring students as main characters. Strong characters play a role as well giving them the spot to overshadow other characters the chance to shine. Also both have fantastic voice acting, visuals, artwork, animation, and soundtrack. Not to mention both are adapted from LN to an incomplete status giving another chance to make another season. If you like one or the other, give it a shot and you won't  read more

Both follow a young protagonist who finds himself in all kinds of strange situation. Both shows have a similar vibe: they focus on a large cast of unique characters, have a lot of wacky action and supernatural creatures, have a similar type of humor, as well as similar soundtracks.

So even gangsters play basketball. In Season 3, we got Haizaki a gangster playing basketball. After being kicked off the basketball team in middle school, he gone full gangster to have his revenge on Kise who replaced him. Similarly, there's this gangster call Hiroshi in Durarara who wanted revenge on Mikado and if they ever meet again which they will, go beat him up since Mikado with the help of Izaya showed him up back in Season 1 Episode 3! That was so hilarious!

Both have random and insane story line with lovable characters, hilarious moments. You might get lost in the story but don't worry everyone does.

The same atmosphere, style of music and story, even art. And mafia - in the second season of Durarara!! it's important. We even have a mafia man with the scar in both anime. Durarara!! is lighter and more funny, with supernatural motives.

Both series... 1. Deal with fantasy or occult combined with gangs 2. Are written by the same author, Narita Ryohgo 3. Have scattered story lines that come together in a greater plot 4. Both series are Action and Supernatural 5. Have many smaller character groups

The toughest 1 vs. 1 fights are present in the 2nd season. Kyouhei vs. Chikage in Durarara and Kagami vs. Aomine in Kuroko. Evenly matched and strengthed at their strongest. You also got the OP Shizuo and Murasakibara that just smashes you away!
