Ice

Three words for the viewer: what the hell. Both involve sci-fi, mecha, and gore, have a crazy, barely understandable story, very little character development, and a cast composed (almost) only by females. Both even have recycled music (even though MOD is explicit and constant in doing so, and Ice uses a famous melody only during one scene). While MOD makes no sense at all and yet is hilarious, Ice is confusing and messy from the first to the last episode, which may cause you an unfunny headache. 

Bizarre, schlocktastic OVAs that make you wonder why the heck anyone decided to make them. Nonetheless they both have a great deal of so-bad-it's-good appeal, with one already a cult classic, and the other undoubtedly destined to become one. Must-see for fans of trippy, violent, screwed-up anime, and gratuitous hyphens.

Look. We both know which of these two series is the better. I nevertheless submit the following: Evangelion has a *bunch of bullsh*t* happen in it, which has been sanded down by generations of EvaGeeks users, pseudo-Freudians, beautiful homosexuals, and the like. Explain to me the doors of Guf in a satisfying way, I dare you. What I mean is: when you watch Eva, you have the assistance of every person who's ever watched Eva before shaping the juggernaut known as public opinion and accepted canon there with you, like a weird statue you call a friend. Ice has so many of the same ambition as Evangelion: circumscribing the end-times with love in all sense. Its sci-fi worldmaking doesn't get enough time to establish itself slowly and meaningfully; there are too many characters introduced too quickly to stick. BUT! Ice's sci-fi concepts have the same gorgeously incomplete articulation as Eva, and the psychosexual convolutions and inter-faction tensions of the two rival each other -- only one was given less time. If you watch Ice, watch the care put into the mech designs and interface screens, watch what the characters are saying when they're not speaking, watch girls be absolute freaks and consider what their freakness might be showing the glimmer of, ponder the bookend Blonde Lady like you'd ponder the Bookend Rei. Both are quite psychedelic postapocaliptical animes. Both had quite a lot yuri but no real yuri plot. Both had two quite similar female protagonists: rapier-wielding, brave and calm fighting heroine and smart or rather "soul-sensitive" but defenseless heroine. 

In both anime human almost face extinction because their cant birth baby again but they are trying to solve that problem with any cost.
