With an introductory narration like that, you know you're in for something good. At least, something different from all the other crappily-animated, poorly-strung-together hentai out there. Shiiba-san no Ura no Kao is a step above the rest. People who are looking for a vanilla series should go elsewhere. I watch tons of hentai, and I was still a bit weirded out by a scene in this one. The story is pretty good for a hentai, especially seeing as the setup was so terribly cliché. Our main dude is in class when the illustrious Shiiba drops her eraser next to his desk. She whispers into his ear to meet him in the empty classroom at the end of the hallway after school. Thus, the shenanigans begin. The whole hentai is about our protagonist being entranced by Shiiba, and the secret that Shiiba has. This should come as no surprise since the title means "the Other Side of Shiiba-san". Or more literally, "the Other Face of Shiiba-san". I must say that the conclusion to the show is actually pretty emotional. Maybe it's just because I'm a chick, but I really felt sorry for whatshisface.
Art is also solid. I'm a (mostly) straight girl, but damn, Shiiba is actually super pretty. I like how her character design is realistic and not childish, because with some hentai you feel bad watching them because they are so obviously fake (and sometimes underage) girls, what with their pigtails that reach to the floor and their moe-ness. Shiiba is different. She has a voice like silk, and the way the voice actress performs makes the character mysterious and sexy, because she speaks in short sentences and in quite a monotonous way. Some might say that she's tsundere, but I think that since the ending makes it clear that she doesn't mean to hurt people, she isn't a tsundere, just a bit cold and unintentionally heartless. The animation is a bit clunky and sometimes out of proportion, but the character designs are so lovely that I'm prepared to forgive it for that.
The sound is nice. The music at the beginning of the episode is pretty outstanding for a hentai. It captures Shiiba's mystery and beauty very well, and intrigues the watcher because they see how nice the quality is. The voice acting is good as well. Whatshisface's awkward disposition and stammer makes him really adorable and likeable, but the voice actor can switch to a powerful and foreboding voice towards the end when things start to get a bit more funky. I won't spoil the ending of the first episode, but it's pretty damn awesome. Shiiba's voice is sultry and cool, she has little emotion but it's part of her "Unintentional Ice Queen" character. One of the hottest female voices. It's pretty awesome.
The characters! I kind of covered this already, but what the hell. Shiiba is awesome and her ladylike character design really makes her memorable. Her character is actually quite well developed for a hentai, giving reasons for why she is the way she is (a sex-crazed hoe). As I mentioned in one of my other reviews, I usually don't like sluts in hentai. But, in case you hadn't guessed, I love Shiiba! I love Shiiba because she is slutty, but has a certain classiness to her. She's graceful and ladylike. Most of the time, anyway. Whatshisface is the "young, socially awkward yet well-endowed teenager" type of male protagonist in a hentai. He's a lot plainer that Shiiba because it's marketed at guys, but I still found him to be handsome and sweet most of the time. He's generally just a cute, shy guy. He's very likeable and relatable too.
Enjoyment. Now, here I would like to say why it didn't get a higher score from me. This may just be me, but I like sister incest as much as the next hentai-eer. It's cute and in this one, the "Sister Lip" portion was very well done. Totally predictable and had been done a million times before, but still nicely done. But this is what weirded me out a little bit. I draw the line in father-daugher incest. I know it's weird and prejudiced, but I just don't like it and skip any scenes with that in hentai, unless they aren't really related like in Oni Chichi, where it's a step-father who isn't blood related. But this oversteps the mark. He's her father, and they have rough raunchy sex together just over halfway through the episode. Usually I can pretend it's not happening and that they're strangers to wait scenes like this out, but it is obviously catering heavily to the fetish, with her saying "Oto-san" every five seconds. It was a bit too weird for me, so I had to skip it. The oral sex with his sister, however, gets a thumbs-up from me. Weird, huh?
Overall, it's decently animated for a hentai, with lovely character designs and some nice development of Shiiba, and towards the end, Whatshisface too. Seriously, just watch the first episode so that you get the same "pang" at your heart with the ending. Maybe I'm just a big wuss, but I loved the ending so much because it really meant something and left you with something to think about until you go to sleep after your "before-bed-so-you-can-relax" fap. Is it still "fap" if you're a girl? Also, am I the only one who does that? Oh well. Watch it for the lovely Shiiba and the cute sister too! The erotic scenes in it are very well done overall and are definitely above average for a hentai. Go and watch it, spend 30 minutes watching this rare and exiting gem of a hentai!
