Isshuukan Friends.

Sixteen-year-old Yuuki Hase finally finds the courage to speak to his crush and ask her if she wants to become friends. The object of his affection, Kaori Fujimiya, is a quiet and reserved girl who cuts herself off from everyone and does not spare him the same blunt rejection she gives everybody else.

Some time after, Yuuki finds her eating lunch on the roof where she secludes herself during break. He decides to start meeting with Kaori every day in the hopes of beginning to understand her better. The more time they spend together, the more she begins to open up to him. However, nearing the end of the week, she starts to push him away once more. It is then revealed to him the reason for Kaori's cold front: at the end of the week, her memories of those close to her, excluding her family, are forgotten, as they are reset every Monday. The result of an accident in middle school, the once popular and kind Kaori is now unable to make friends in fear of hurting the people dear to her.

Determined to become more than just one week friends, Yuuki asks her the exact same question each Monday: "Would you like to be friends?" Because he knows that deep down, Kaori wishes for that more than anything.

One Week Friends is generally a good show. However, it has both normal, preventable issues and issues that are intrinsic to the premise which cannot be fixed. The fact that Fujimiya forgets everything about her friends every week means that you will inevitably have to erase the story's progress. In fact, it makes it so that it would be WORSE if you didn't erase the story's progress. Let me elaborate:

Fujimiya forgetting every week is the interesting thing about the premise. This forgetfulness has many possible consequences that could be explored, which can add some freshness to an otherwise ordinary romance story. One Week Friends explores ... some of these, which I wouldn't explain because I consider them spoilers. However, it is also a double edged sword because it either partially or completely resets the story when it happens. On the other hand, If you shy away from resetting the story, it will be like the established premise does not exist in practice. So the only possible path is to accept the frustration and explore the premise anyways. The show tries to balance both approaches kind of successfully. They do find ways to progress the story, but they can't fully escape the eventuality that they will have to do either a partial or full reset.

One Week Friends has other issues though. Hase is whiny, spineless and twitchy. Yes, he is characterized as such and that's completely fine, but he does get on my nerves from time to time (especially in the beginning). Fujimiya is really the bigger problem here. She is just all around kind and nice, but doesn't really do much, making for a really boring female lead. Hase and Fujimiya sometimes have good interactions but sometimes don't. I enjoyed any meaningful interaction they had, but not when Hase is just awkward. That makes me feel second-hand awkwardness. The other side characters were honestly pretty okay.

My unpopular opinion is that if we ever get a second season, I hope we get to see more resets. I think there are still more possible consequences that haven't been explored yet. But even if that's not the case, I wouldn't mind as long as they produce something entertaining. All around an okay watch. Not great, but I would passively watch this while eating food and wasting time.

Mixed Feelings

I think that neither beginning nor the end are important as long as the middle part is good.

Unfortunately it wasn't so good for "One Week Friends"

What really destroyed this anime is pointles amount of filler episodes that bring nothing interesting to the plot, really, episodes are like watching the same tv movie etc. Another downside of OWF is that character development is dead, yes it is, Fujimaya loosess her memory in the end and she remembers nothing, main character is in friendzone (as he was throughout the series)

Damn, I don't want to waste any more time on this crap.

6/10, only because of few ... cute romance settings ( wasted in the end)

Bro what the fuck, where’s the rest of show? It had a great premise and I was really enjoying it but then it just fucking stopped. Nothing got explained, nothing got resolved, it just… ended. Like it said fuck you, go read the manga. It was a goddamn teaser trailer not a fucking tv show. Man this could have been a 6 or even 7/10 if they just fucking finished the show. Goddamn. I looked up the manga and it litereally doesn’t have that many chapters, just fucking finish it you goddamn cowards. Fuck, I hate that shit. You had such a good premise and ... they just didn’t do shit with it. Fuck.
