These both have a fantastical ancient Asian atmosphere with a strong willed heroine determined to take charge of her own destiny and help the people of her country.

Romance, historical oriental setting and politics! Although there are all these similar genres, Saiunkoku Monogatari has a lighter feel to it :D but the art is the same -- Just as beautiful! both are also full of bishies and a strong female lead XD

As I have said in the first season, both are reverse harems. Main protogonist is dense towards romantic relaionships AND they don't bow down to the guys :D If you liked Saiunkoku Monogatari II, I think you'll like Ouran just as much, or even more! XD

Fushigi Yuugi and Saiunkoku monogatari has many things in common. Both animes are taken place in ancient Asian cultures. It takes place in an era of war where the emperors rage wars to keep their empires in toll. Both animes revolves around a romantic triangle. Character personas and design are also very similar. If you are a fan of either anime, i'd strongly recommend and encourage you to watch the other as well!
