Overarching gothic style with a dark palette. Drops you in the middle of an ongoing story with a surreal bent. Moody and contemplative.

Tokyo Revelations shares a few similarities to X/1999. Both are epic battles for the world, though they have different causes, they involve childhood friends taking opposing sides in the battle for what they believe is right. They also both have slight shonen-ai themes.

Both are adaptations of CLAMP works. Both anime have similar concepts about destiny/revenge/changing ones fate. Both adaptations rush through a story that can't possibly be told completely in the time given, resulting in lots of cut content from the manga/original scenes that change the outcome of the story to fit into a shorter narrative.

Both by CLAMP and with theme songs by X Japan. You could never go wrong with that pairing. X/1999 is a movie adapted from CLAMP's manga X while Rusty Nail is a music video for X Japan's song. They have similar supernatural and apocalyptic tones as well as art style and music.

movies with supernatural as the main theme wether in outer space or just on earth, though x is more related to religion and folklore than locke, u can count on flashy fights!

X/1999 bears an uncanny resemblance to Demon City Shinjuku, pitting troubled characters against one another in spiritual combat against the shadowy backdrop of apocalyptic central Tokyo.

Both have similar theme: a group of people with supernatural powers divided into two clans fighting against each others. The group of the main guy is trying to prevent the world destruction. Main girl gets kidnapped by the rival group and main boy tries to save her.

They are both about love in the midst of war, and have high-tension moments where you aren't sure the characters will survive. They are also about on the same quality level plot-wise.

Fans of Angel Sanctuary will love X, both the movie and the series. Similar themes: Post-apocalyptic, characters in high school, supernatural heavenly powers, very good storyline.
