Devadasy is what you get when you order Evangelion from Wish, and receive a somewhat not that bad, but still bad, product.
From all Evaclones, this is the only one I could finish watching - certainly, being only three episodes long helped a lot.
In a world Evangelion doesn't exist, Devadasy could be interesting, one of those obscure OVAs appreciated by a niche audience, even though it's too short and underdeveloped... but as Evangelion exists, it's just hilarious how serious it takes itself, while being a blatant rip off. Because from all rip offs, this is the one that ripped off the most!
I'm really curious about how
...
was the pitch to produce it. There is really no unique or discerning features. Being an OVA, it enjoys so much freedom the TV series don't have, but instead of using it to abuse of sex and violence and become one of these OVAs that goes cult just for how trashy they are, the whole thing is pretty tamed... honestly it would have worked better as shameless porn parody.
Notice that I'm actually recommending it. I did find it pretty funny to watch... the "so bad it's good"?... ermm, not really, it kinda hurts to say it's good in any sense... but if you are fan of Evangelion or that general vibe, it's a fair watch considering it will barely take one hour of your day - and you won't be expecting more than a bad rip off.
