New Interest Stack
Interest StacksDecided to make a stack for the OVAs and movies you used to be able to find on Blockbuster shelves or on late-night TV anime blocks right before infomercials or softcore porn. Behold, hyper-violence, bad animation, paranoid politics, incomprehensible writing, awful dubs, gratuitous nudity, and that special something that makes bad things great sometimes. Some anime OVAs dating back to this time, with not many movies included. Kick back with your choice of inebriant or lack thereof and have some fun watching action heroes battle it out with all sorts of weapons, explosives, superpowers and machines. OVAs aren't usually very long so you don't even need to commit. You don't need to think too much and don't take it so seriously. These shows are all about having a good time and maybe some laughs along the way. I remember going to the video store, browsing the shelves, and picking out a movie based on the box art alone. I'd look at the front, I'd look at the back, and more often than not I'd put it back on the shelf. Occasionally there'd be something like Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll, and I knew I just had to rent it, or more accurately get my parents to rent it. Do you like watching trashy 80/90s OVAs and movies that are violent, stupid, and nonsensical? Well this list is for you. Some of these are pretty famous in the community like Violence Jack and M.D. Geist, but I made sure to really dumpster dive for some obscure trash for all of you garbage connoisseurs out there. Anime series, OVAs and Movies transmitted in Locomotion Channel between 1999 and 2005. Locomotion was a subscription television channel that broadcast various genres of adult animation 24 hours a day. Adaptations that share nothing with their source material but the title, some characters' names, and maybe even the premise, to the point you could change the title and no one would tell it's an adaptation. Remakes/reboots/sequels/localizations also included. ♫ Subarashii chin chin mono Before the likes of Saint Seiya, Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon conquering the kids in the west, it was actually Akira that opened the door and made people realize that the cartoons coming from Japan weren't what you would expect from Disney or your TV channels. ADV Films, the former incarnation of Sentai Filmworks, produced most of their English dubs in Houston, Texas. However, from the late 1990s until 2005, ADV also employed a secondary studio in Austin, Texas, known as Monster Island. A mix of 80's & 90's ova series that I have seen. This list contains all those anime that have been dubbed into Latin Spanish from each available decade. This list includes those anime films distributed on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray in Mexico. Currently, due to the death of the home format in Mexico, they are all discontinued editions, but they are collectible pieces for every Mexican anime fan. |
