While not its own genre, these compositions tend to have a recognisable feel to them.

Anime series that take place inside a virtual game world, often by playing a virtual reality game (VRMMO) with other players, or by being transported into a new world with videogame rules, RPG stats, levels and other game-like elements.
The first shows in this stack are pure VRMMO anime where the protagonist plays a VR game, while shows further down the list are other types of virtual worlds or isekai worlds with game mechanics.

Death game/Battle Royale anime

In the following anime, the protagonist(s) are being monitored (i.e. through a screen, etc.) to the amusement of an audience. There may be other reasons for the set up, but being watched by a group of people who are not directly trying to kill the contenders themselves is the requisite.

Anime that is already completed and will never get a season 2 either because it's original or anime adapts the whole source material. Some will not get a squeal either because the manga has already ended or the anime is too old to get a season 2.

This stack is an ultimate starter pack if you are looking for anime with genius protagonists or characters with considerably high IQ. If mind games and intelligent moments are your go-to interests, this is the perfect stack for you.

For anime with sequels, only the first seasons of each have been included in the stack. The genres include (but are not limited to) psychological, mystery, isekai, sports, and romance/drama.

Long-running shounen anime have not been included in the list, except Detective Conan (in case you are looking for Bleach or Fullmetal Alchemist - yes, this is according to Aizen's plan too).

There are various different genres like action, fantasy, mystery, thriller, romance so don’t be surprised when you find a show you thought could be a Shoujo, shounen, or Josei in here. These are all shows I found interesting and so I hope for find something you like in here! (Working on explanations!)

I just want to list some shows which show a little more explicit violence, please bear in mind that this list is not supposed to give you (only) pure splatter or even shows where the brutality is the focus. Hope you enjoy!
