Tokusatsu (特撮) is a term originally coined to describe to a specific brand of special effects-heavy live-action movies and television (in fact, the word translates directly as "special effects"). The genre was popularised by Godzilla (1954), though the term actually predates it slightly.

In modern times, the word is often instead used to describe a particular sort of superhero series, featuring one, two or several characters who can transform into outfits that cover the entire body, concealing their identity and provide them with various abilities, either magical or through advanced technology. When there are multiple characters, such as the long-running Super Sentai series, they tend to each have a different theme colour.

There is quite a large crossover between Mecha (almost always of the Super Robot variety), as often Tokusatsu heroes will be able to either grow to giant size or command Mechas (often that can combine into increasingly powerful forms) in order to combat giant monsters. Another big area of overlap is with Mahou Shoujou, as both typically feature a multicoloured group of characters with flamboyant attacks. To that end, Tokusatsu is sometimes considered the "male equivalent" of Mahou Shoujou, though of course both have examples of going against this stereotype.

The following list is non-exhaustive. Should a significant number of additional titles be found, an addendum may be made. There is no real order other than keeping series together and prioritising more notable titles.

The criteria here is simple: Anime released in any year, with under 160,000 MAL Members, and which I've rated a 7 or higher.

I'm also not including anything that I've already included on my Good Stuff list: https://myanimelist.net/stacks/9517

Pardon my presumptuous and awkwardly worded title meant to shoehorn this into my Obscurities series. In short, if you've seen a lot of the most popular stuff and just need some new recommendations that aren't the most obvious things possible but also not too obscure, here you go.

A continuation of my previous stack, "Anime Based on Significantly Older Manga", exclusively including remakes. The manga must have been at least 15 years old when the anime released. Organized in ascending order by length of time between manga and remake.

List is incomplete. If I am missing any big ones, let me know. Thanks to everyone who has helped me add to this list.

This is the third [#03] list in the series. Make sure to go through others.
------------------------------------------=====================

Q. What's the criteria for this list?

A. Well, OP MC is always entertaining, when done right, and I usually prefer characters who aren't ultimate cucks around women as well (so some anime with "romance" also show up). Some anime featuring cuck MC's are present in the list, but the cuck level is low/bearable enough or the rest of the anime is entertaining enough to sit through main character's cucky shenanigans (cuckanigans?).. viewer discretion is advised.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PS: Only first season will be listed. If anime has more seasons, watch or skip based on experience. Not sure why other stacks list all seasons of same anime in a list.

When the anime follows the path of the manga but takes a few detours along the way or decides to change the details and context.
If it makes you go "this isnt how i remember it" then it counts

Anime where the main character is a superhero that fights villains. In many of these series, the main character has a power that their villains do and uses it against them for the good of society.
