Characters here usually (but not limited to):
* Give zero damns about nobody/Do what most lack the balls to (including you know...( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°))
* Will stop at no length to achieve their goals
* Are themselves (e.g. has a highly defining trait in the show/to viewers)
* Are OP (inc. charas extremely skilled in any field or all-capable), or have plot armor to the point it's silly

Gradually shuffling out harem & OPMCs in favour of variety/lesser known shows (There's another stack right there --> if you want that generic stuff)

No claymation, stop motion, 30 second CG clips, completely abstract visuals, experimental art created by a single person, etc!

List of anime that are so bad that they're actually worth watching. A lot of these shows have bad plot and animation but are comedic enough to be enjoyed by the general population of MAL.

Worthwhile, absurdist comedies with less than 40k members. This stack only includes comedies I've begun watching, or have finished watching.

This is the opposite of Germans Love David Hasselhoff: a character or entertainer who is fairly popular in their home region becomes The Scrappy or a Base-Breaking Character in another market.

The most common reason for this is Values Dissonance, as things that seem normal or relatable in one culture can be seen as offensive, baffling, or just plain stupid in another. Or they violate some cultural taboo. Aesthetic dissonance can also be at play, i.e. different cultures have their own standards of cuteness and attractiveness. Another reason for it can be that a character is supposed to represent the nation that hates them, and this character is seen as offensively stereotypical. In the worst cases, the hatedom of a single character can result in No Export for You for an entire series (something some people are probably going to be grateful for).
